In this setting, lions and tigers can have offspring together; see the character Jangal in pages 17-19 as an example, as he's a liger, the son of a lion and a tigress.
But anything less close than that won't produce offspring; that's where the aforementioned Walter comes into play, as Sinh's wives use the bear when they are in heat season and need to mate, but don't wish to risk a pregnancy.

Thanks. Yep i didn't phrase this well, i was curious about the number of "bastards" Sudarsini referred to, if Sinh just found other lionesses and compatible big felines to impregnate, or if there were possibilities, even remote, for other species to have his kittens. But yeah i didn't consider the Walther situation...
Yeah they definitely mean a vasectomy, not castration. This is also his recollection of what they said, no doubt being influenced by what he believes they want. I have a sneaking suspicion that their actual words were even more clear about this being a vasectomy. I'm wondering if he has even heard of the procedure before, because if he hasn't it's quite understandable why he might jump to such a drastic conclusion. Hopefully big bro Jangal is more well informed and can pick up on what his wives are asking even through Singh's interpretation.
It also falls in line with the invention of the vastectomy, which, according to Wikipedia, was used on dogs in 1823, with use for humans in the 1890's (albeit not for the best reasons). This story takes place I believe in the 1890's depending on how much time has passed from Bear Witness. These lions are also loaded so Im confident they can pull some strings and arrange for someone to perform this hot new sterilizing medical procedure.
If what you are thinking is right, imagine how confusing and scary the procedure would be to someone who's only context about doing something to the balls to prevent pregnancy is castration. And this is also a society where eunuch still exist. That's one of the ways that Jangal knows Sinh's mane would "fall out".
Even Jangal doesn't know, he probably has useful advice. This is why Sinh calls his cousin his Sadhu.

Their speech is so synchronized, it almost looks like telepathy between both wives. It's mesmerizing; the more I read their dialogue, the more I can imagine their voices in my head. Such a powerful page, congratulations.
Sinh's devotion is admirable. He doesn't even need to answer at all... unless he really wants, of course.

Wonderful choice indeed, I was actually thinking about something similar for Sudarsini, just a bit more leaning into the femme fatale archetype, deep and sultry, such as the voice of Lauren Bacall.
As for Jinga, I immediately thought of Charlize Theron; her voice suits her in my opinion, elegant and graceful, yet calculating, always observing, which matches the lioness personality.
About Azeza... I would need to see her a bit more in action before making a decision, heh.
What do you think?

It is looking dark, isn't it?
There are a bunch of times in our lives where we have a choice but don't really. Let's see how Sinh navigates this. How does he really feel about the whole thing? Already he lives his life in a way where he trusts his wives, defers to them but not blindly. On previous page--page 14 I think--I talk about how he does his due diligence before approving any business dealings his wives engage in with the House resources. He has veto power.
Still, he trusts them and used to deferring to them.
He needs to talk to someone about this. Maybe Jangal is the right person. There's definitely someone he ought to talk to about it. :)

but on the plus side he's not bouncing around 1800s equivolent of london or east coast usa where doctors pride themselves on being covered in old blood bc it shows 'how many surgeries they have done' (i had a BLAST reading the biography of dr mutter, known for the medical oddity museum in phili these days but a pioneer of plastic surgery in his own!! "dr mutter's marvels" well worth the read to anyone imo)
Here's hoping he discusses his fears and anxiety with his wives before anything is decided or enacted (if only to clarify what it is they are proposing).
Otherwise, this would remind me too much of the enforced sterilizations that Europe and the United States engaged in for a hundred years or more.
Even when done for "the greater good", one's body should be inviolable.

Eugenics did become a thing in the late 19th century, when the story was taking place.
Though doing something that alters Sinh's ability to conceive is more about family planning than eugenics, I'd say. If the wives forced him into something he didn't want to do, that would be a non-good thing, regardless of any greater good.
He has been good about following their rules that they together agreed on. Perhaps he will agree on this one after his misunderstanding is corrected. As much as some of my fans enjoy things like castration in their fantasies, that's the one thing I promise isn't going to happen in this story.
You're just on one of the scary turns of the roller coaster. Enjoy.
