Honestly, I feel there are far more creative ways to critique humanity than have humans all wake up one day and decide to wage a suicidal-onmicidal war against each other going against all logic and self-preservation instincts for the lolz.
I mean, I get it's an entrenched trope in the genre, but still.

What further makes it laughable is the fact that the story mentions we reached space-faring levels. That tends to suggest human settlements either around the planet or on other celestial bodies either in the solar system or even beyond. And you want to tell me literally everyone just decided to go murderhobo at once everywhere? My suspension of disbelief can handle so much.
maybe not everyone died, maybe it was a world war with super futuristic weapons that destroyed the earth and turned into a wasteland, and if there was space colonies those got destroyed too, there is also the posbility that yes there were space colonies who survived the war, saw that earth was a mess and decide to leave it for better undamaged planets, you could even asume that if the earth was the capital of the space empire it was the one who got the most damaged to the point it was unviable to fix it and so.
imagine it like a country getting its capital destroyed by a very nasty nuke and rebuilding the capital there and cleaning it would take so much times and resources (wich will be a valuable resource after a war) that is better just to rebuild elsewere and so.

There's nothing to suggest humanity was that advanced in space travel. By reaching the stars she likely means that they were in the same stage of space exploration we are in right now.
Plus if they did manage to set up any outposts on other planets in the solar system they would still require resources from Earth to survive long-term

Of course I know that but those resources are mostly raw minerals and while water does exist it's frozen. Everything will have to be processed which requires specialized equipment. And if it's processed on site then it gets even more tricky as space is not a perfect vacuum and breaking down and forging minerals requires specific conditions for it to work.
It's actually more effective to just mine materials from somewhere fairly close like the Moon then ship them back to Earth.
To make an already long comment from getting any longer.
No human space colony is going to be entirely self sufficient from Earth

I don't think that's what happened and that all humans were bad. Remember we are supposed to be viewing this oral tale through the lens of the characters of something that happened in the ancient past. And like most ancient tales the facts are likely not completely accurate.
The truth is it's more likely world war 3 popped off and the planet was trashed in the resulting nuclear holocaust

It's true, about oral tale thingy I mean. What if truth behind this is far more different? What if said humanity in comic actually created first "furry gods" (lol) and then it have gone into downhill from this point? After all one of ironic point that it is comic about human-like beings.
well now, my complaint isn't so much about the writing XD
I've been enjoying this comic so far! just an attitude I see in a lot of young folks and more progressive minded peeps, and especially furries, and I just feel it's a darn shame.
but again, was just a comment. not like, accusing the comic of doing that beyond reminding me of that mentality is all

I also am not a fan of the whole "fantasy world is actually post-apocalyptic future Earth" trope. It's always been kind of an ick to me. And it shows up in furry comics/indie fantasy worldbuilding a lot and it's unfortunate :/
I guess I really just strongly prefer my fantasy worlds to just be fantasy worlds. I don't know why there always has to be some connection to Earth in there.

The trope of "anthro world is post-apocalyptic Earth where humans killed each other" goes back to at least the interwar period.
At least that was meant to be a then "reasonable" concern over another World War and its outcome. But by now it got really overdone and aside from being a lowhanging fruit to complain about humanity (same vein as the "humanity is a virus" crap that is said by toxic people the rest of humanity would be better without) it achieves nothing.
I had an assumption this was a post human world or at least some kind of past civilization whether human, anthro, or something else. Now I look forward to seeing how this particular world came to be, whether human creations or there was legit magic and supernatural entities all along but humanity never discovered it, and these entities decided to repopulate the Earth after it healed since humanity fucked it up.
That leads to the next question. What does the main villain know our heroes don't? What does the Tree know? What do any of these Gods know? I look forward to the answers.

Hate to follow up with the other two comments and really this is a fantastic story. But I'm also of the tired sort when the backstory is a surprise human caused apocalypse. There's a chance this is a false story and not the "whole" truth but that also feels like a cope if that is indeed where this is going.
Still one thing to currently remember. These folks are going through a near apocalypse themselves thanks to Rajohn and the Chaos he spreads. I'm not apt to think this society is any better at this point.

"Beware the beast, Man, for he is the devil's pawn
Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, or lust, or greed
Ye he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land
Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours
Shun him, drive him back into his jungle lair,
for he is the harbinger of death."

Look I get some of us might have bad tendencies. but why is it popular to lump everyone together, and say humanity as a whole is bad? or like we don't deserve to be here just as much as anything else. this human hate stuff, just gets repetitive and awkward sometimes😅
Because writing nuance is "hard" (to be more accurate would disprove the whole narrative of "all humans bad") and then there are those who have a one track mind and can't be changed no matter what. Which ironically makes them the worse part of humanity while complaining about how bad humanity is.
i mean, if the world ends i dont think there is gonna be much diference between individuals, like, being good or evil will not matter if we got nuked, also look at polucion we do, yes there are good and bad people, but we as an species are basically killing the planet, take in account that we are the smartest animals on the plante and we understood the damage we do and dont care and can explain why the complains in a way
What do you mean we don't care? that's generalizing everyone, and technically insults those who have been actively trying to save the planet, and have been helping others for years. yes, there are bad apples in every race/religion/sexuality. but are you really going to say we are all just as bad, simply because we are human too? It's not our fault some of the higher-ups are doing bad things, or other citizens are committing some kind of atrocity or crime. that isn't fair to those who are genuinely doing nothing wrong.
ok lemme explain, i mean we do not care as species, idividuals do care but not the biggest ones, for example, people care and dont use plastics, avoid littering and promote recycling and thats nice, but mega corporations and private planes do so much pollution that is kinda pointless, same with wars, they are caused by few individuals in power and not by the mayority.
again is no the individual, its us as species, no matter how much we recycle and do our best, we still detroy forest, pollute the planet and will probably seflt destruct in a nuclear war if we dont change as a society a lot.

In the context of this comic, the story she is telling is of events, and I quote, "hundreds of thousands of years ago." It's ancient history or, more likely, basically myths and folklore with maybe a kernel of truth hidden in there somewhere. Multiple hundreds of thousands of years is a long time for a story to get twisted and facts to get obfuscated. So "rah, rah, humanity was all bad" could in this instance just be the end result of what is in essence a long, long, long-long-long (could probably add in a quite a few "longs" here) game of broken phone. xP
And yet constantly throughout history we have had constant wars and shown unbelivable cruelty to our fellows
In the 20thC they got to the point of killing tens of millions, and even risking neclear armagedon, and we do still have nukes and we still do have wars and the EU powers are clearly worried a new one is about to break out due to them all rapidly increasing spending on defence.
It doesn't matter that not all people are like it, the leaders often are, and they are the ones that cause the issues for everyone and the ones who's choice could wipe out the world.
'Not all humans are bad' is a tired take, because it is stating the obvious based on a technicality while ignoring the reality of our history which has shown we are a violent and warlike species .
Look up how many years in our history we have not been in major conflicts
And thats ignoring small ones that will make the number 0
saying that our species as a whole is not warlike, because we do some cool stuff, is childish to the extreme and ignores the reality of our history and current day events,

And saying we as a whole are bad is even more tired. attempting to diminish the good we accomplished as well, only paints this as a dystopian miserable existence when we have and continue to do just as much good. nothing is ignored, we are aware of what some of those in power have done. what you have said does not dismiss my point of, "we as a whole are not bad". It only tries to downplay things, by in your own words ignoring the smaller moments of non-conflict. of course there are those in power who still cause problems and hardships for others. but again, humanity as a whole isn't bad.
Exactly the highest likelihood of what region would pop off a nuclear exchange is actually Pakistan and India.
Barring that the device in Doctor strange Love is based on reality Russia really does have a Deadman switch signal controlling their nuclear arsenal.
You can actually listen to the signal broadcast online.
if it gets cut off after a certain amount of time then barring a human override Russia's arsenal will automatically launch

Considering that I am a philosopher, as well as the fact that I possess quite a bit of basic knowledge about human nature, I must say that I have serious doubts about the story that Mira is telling here, as it does not seem to be the whole story. Nevertheless, I will wait for how the story ends before jumping to conclusions.
Everyone complaining in the comments about 'ugh, another humans are bad and blew themselves up trope' need to realize their opinions don't really matter. Zummeng is telling the story THEY want to tell. This is not your story. This is Zummeng's story.
Is it a trope? Yeah. And its fine. But a fantasy story about talking animals doesn't have to be realistic. Nor is anything about ToL super unique despite being an overall good story. Not everything needs to break the mold or reinvent the wheel. Sometimes the tried and true tropes people like are good.

Who cares if they don't matter🤨 they're still allowed to be expressed anyway. and we're mostly talking to each other and not Zummeng, so I don't see the problem🤷🏻♀️ are we telling Zummeng to change the script for us? nope. only voicing our thoughts on the subject matter, like we're free to👍
You talking in the comments IS talking to Zummeng. You are commenting on their art and they are getting all these comments about people complaining about what they don't like. You are talking amongst yourselves on their art. If you were doing so in like, a different forum, or a discord, that would be one thing. But you are literally doing it on their art; you are talking to them.
Uh. that's not exactly the same as addressing Zummeng themselves though, but sure I guess🤷🏻♀️ yes we are chatting on Zummengs's post, but what does that matter? It was posted here, so this is where we're talking about it🤷🏻♀️ you can't expect every comment to be a positive one, and that's okay. it happens👍 the story already had divisive moments, and it's not like anyone here is bashing the artist for making them. we are simply voicing our opinions on the current events of the story. no more, no less👍
Well... Ow. I mean, it is-- unfortunately-- totally understandable. But...
Ow.
I just hope there are still some who remember that, even at our worst, there were always some humans who fought back against the insanity. They may have lost in the end in this story, but there were always those who fought back.

Not adding to the hate, humanity does have one or two that end up messing things up for the rest. The idea we 'can't have nice things' in public as they frequently are defaced by the one odd fool or ignorant unsupervised teen/minor that ruins it.
Your art is wonderful and your worldbuilding is spot on. Looking forward to more!
