my step father was big into comics.. if I remember right, it was about 23,000$ US he sold a comic for.. an original print of the first superman or something..
he's rich.. when i visited, I always saw that he had boxes upon boxes of comics, and he gave me a box once.. :P wasnt a big fan of the style but I did find this furry comic..
I cant reme- XANADU! that's it..

I was lucky that I had a decent comic book store in my neighborhood close to home and high school (the usual hero titles and a decent selection of independent titles including anthropomorphic animal titles not aimed at little kids). The owner was a good guy and the store was a gathering place for like-minded geeks like me. The store lasted around 20 years before the lease ran out and the owner moved out of town.
I still visit another comic store quite a ways away from the neighborhood. Still like an occasional comic book or so. Manga now.
Comparing today's online choices...and seeing neighborhood kids more interested in admiring graffiti tagging on other people's property nowadays...
I think I was raised right.

Whenever my parents are done with the Sunday paper, they usually put it directly into the recycle bin... Except for the comics page which they set aside, knowing perfectly well that I get a bit grouchy if I'm deprived of my funnies.
Comics are the place were art, comedy, social commentary, and philosphy congregate. They'll always have relevance, purpose, and followers in this world.
