since i played around a little with pixel art on my last post, i thought id do another! that wasnt the direct inspiration, but i liked the retro style
YesterOwl went for for most of his attacks this year for art fight and i wanted to do something similar with my characters since most of them havent really been drawn that way, so i did a little bit of research and did some of my own sprites. the difference is that i went for authenticity, while i think yester was just going for aesthetics which is also fair
NES sprites apparently only have enough memory for four colours (including transparency so really three colours). devs could get around this by using multiple tiles or by stacking sprites on top of each other, but generally they only have 3. i went with a size of 16×16 for my object show characters since thats how large most of the kirbys adventure sprites are, then i used 16×32 for the anthro characters and 32×16 for my one feral character. so yeah, overall it was pretty tricky but i think i made it work
i kinda made this as a soft remake of Back to 2001! that i made a while back. two different nostalgia periods obviously, but i dont know, i dont think i really did a good job of replicating early 2000s internet iconography at the time. that picture was actually my wallpaper for the past few years using the 'tile' fit and now im doing the same with this picture and i think it looks good, although a little busy
overall this picture is more similar to My Character Templates because it features basically all of my active characters. i think i should do this as a trend, like every year just draw all of my characters in a different art style
speaking of My Character Templates though, i actually have an updated version of that picture featuring the kiwi and axolotl, but i wasnt really sure how to present it, like, whether to replace the file of the old one, put the updated version in the description, or just make a whole new submission. or maybe make a journal? i dont know. i have already shared it to a few people online though
