Emil Blonsky, being born in Russia, grew up without his parents, and having to go through an abusive childhood, he would later travel to the United Kingdom at age 18 to study chemistry in order to become a chemist. After graduation, he would begin working at the Gamma Lab until an eventual gamma explosion caused by Bruce Banner occured, with him and Bruce being the only ones affected, as they were the only ones in the lab. Affected, Blonsky soon transformed into a hulking mutant named the Abomination. While he remained his intelligence, he was fueled with rage, blaming Bruce for his alteration, and soon broke a huge destructive fight between the two. After being caught and arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D., he soon went under an anger management program, where he soon began to revert to his old personality, and has since regretted his actions towards Bruce, though he began to fear that if he were to ever face him again, he might kill him. Blonsky was released from prison the day before the mandated evacuation from Earth, and was one of many to have been evacuated. After arriving to Knowhere, Blonsky decided to rent an newly built apartment, and he would soon allow Black Dwarf to move in with him.
