SHARKWEEK: Pelagic Thresher
Shark Week marches on with today's shark, the Pelagic Thresher! Again, this is for devlexuswolf's Shark Week Sketch Jam on DA.
Dear god, these things are so freakin' cute. They're like... the fennec foxes of the shark world, or something. BIG OL' EYES, teeny li'l face, comically over-sized pectoral fins, and of course, that ridiculous tail. Perfect recipe for d'awwww.
Like many sharks, threshers take a long time to reach sexual maturity, and only produce a couple of pups at a time. Therefore, they are considered vulnerable by the IUCN as the population cannot withstand high levels of exploitation.

Well, when it comes to thresher sharks, they're shy and do not view humans as prey. When it comes to bigger sharks, yes, one of the reasons attacks happen is because sharks can mistake a person for a seal. It's not the only reason, though, but it usually boils down to self defense, curiosity, or mistake.
