Aw what an absolute delight it was to get to wear Annabelle and Robert Bear to AFC this weekend!!! I really appreciate everyone's enthusiastic responses- to be honest I had wondered if anyone would recognize these old suits! Well I was quite wrong in that assumption, as many people young and old had so many kind things to say and sweetly expressed their admiration of these old animals.
Robert Hill, the creator of these suits passed away about 7 years ago in 2018. Many people seemed to be worried that the suits were destroyed after his passing, the collection went unseen for many, many years. Out of the blue one day I got news that not only were the suits still around, but they we're looking for a final resting place... otherwise they would be going to the thrift store!!!! I made time and space immediately to facilitate this, and welcomed them into my home.
Being nearly 40 years old, the suits needed some delicate and challenging repairs. At this point they have all been restored as faithfully as I was able. The only exception to this was the suit Robert Bear, as this suit was his personal fursona, it has been kept original to how he left it.
I was so happy to get to wear them at AFC, a SoCal con not too far away from where Confurence used to take place, as well as many other furry fixtures. You could say that this place is their home, and I am over the moon to get to let them see it all again. It made me quite emotional!!!....
Many people wonder about Hilda the Bambioid suit. That suit is still around too! She is here in SoCal, with the creator of the Bambioids. I'm sure some people can figure out who that may be. Will she be worn again? I do not know..... but its not impossible n_n
When Robert was asked if he would give away or donate his suits to preservation, his reply was:
"No can do on that account I'd rather individuals appreciate them for what they were."
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make that come true for him!

I hate to butt in, but I'm old enough to have known Robert back in the eighties. Even though he liked Disney's version of Baloo and he also liked aircraft, he did not work on the "Talespin" show. At the the time he was working as a model builder at the old Hughes Aircraft building in Fullerton. Most of his professional career was spent working as a model builder, and he was very good at it.
When he told me he was going to build a Robert Bear suit, I gave him an important suggestion, but that's a story for another time.

That's interesting to hear! Almost all of what I have learned is through stories and others pieces of recollections from 40 years ago, so I'm not at all upset you offered some new information- it's appreciated.
If you find another time down the road to share a story or two, it's always very welcome n_n I will say I did have a bit of a surprise upon seeing the Robert Bear suit personally for the first time before restoring it... I wonder if it's related!

That's so wonderful to know that you saved a few other suits and had this opportunity to present them at the furcon. Makes me regret not going, since it would've been nice to meet you, too. As for Hilda, I was under the impression that she was sent to Jerry Collins, who lives in Georgia. Still, that's brilliant that you saved so much of Bob Hill's legacy in the furry fandom. <3
