Sir Billiam - Xyz the Evoker - DnD - Goatfolk Wizard
My player character for 5e - Billiam
Xyz the Evoker to most, Sir Billiam to his employers, sort of companions - Acclaimed 20th level wizard whom was kicked out of the Blackstaff Academy in Waterdeep for being just too damn weird. Sir Billiam has been obsessed for years over a theory about the traps of Undermountain resetting themselves due to some kind of conduit deep within Halaster Blackcloak's domain that is both the root cause of the immutable nature of Undermountain's magic and the possible cause for chaotic havoc and leechings of magic from the lands nearby.
A native of Sword Mountain, with a nestled goatfolk village high above most problems, Billiam spent most of his early years researching forgotten tomes from dangerous passages in the older ruins within. Sword Mountain's lower portions have generally been protected by an aggressive orc settlement from the base to the lower portions. The goatfolk are on friendly terms with the orcs, trading and sharing a playful contest of whom can throw whom off the cliffside on occasion. These contests typically are popular affairs as orc culture often has a reverence for combative bloody affairs and goatfolks are not afraid quite literally of butting heads nor of heights.
Billiam's complete lack of fear from heights grew as he became more powerful in magics. He would spend more time away from the mountain village as he garnered the power to fly among other traversal methods. His self taught nature to magic was only gently aided and encouraged by village elders, but their lack of advanced knowledge led him to develop less conventional thoughts on the natures of magic.
This would cause much contention upon his acceptance to Blackstaff Academy. Billiam only initially joined as he was curious about the applications of magic and culinary arts. His appetite for knowledge in general grew though due to his goatfolk nature, he'd often find himself at odds with his predilection to eating scrolls and books. It was in Billiam's learned opinion that each school of magic also had distinct flavors. He'd spend substantial time licking various walls of the school, numerous items sometimes still on the person's possession, and he only grew more insistent that he was on to something. His fellow mages disagreed, even the rare goatfolk kin insisted, though tasty, there was no particular special flavor to magical items.
There was a specific incident involving the consumption of what may or may not have been a prized tome intended as a gift for a Blackstaff member. The details aren't quite clear, but Billiam had a rather vocal falling out with the academy. Foregoing any vestments or graduation as Billiam was only a few years away from moving forward in the ranks, he left instead focusing on Undermountain exclusively.
He would spend time reading substantial reports of the passages and hiring adventurers to test various theories for him, though eventually he became hired by current residents of Trollskull manor, as they sought an experienced mage specializing in the explorations of Undermountain as their adventuring party was in fact, missing magical accompaniments to the extent an evoker such as Billiam could offer. While the gold was suitable, Billiam initially found himself fascinated by the ability of the party to have venture as far as they had without a mage's assistance.
As Xyz the evoker, his talents are formidable in force magics as a specialization. Billiam is without peer in telekinetics. He has used his ability to tap into the nature of wishes to create the ability for himself to fly, as one of his favorite recreational activities is bathing naked in moonlight while high above the realm. He has created numerous spells including Supreme Telekinesis, Illustrated Reference, Detect Racism, Unsummoning Circle, and the reviled spell Mocking Puppet.
Billiam has a homunculus named Sir William whom he is working towards fashioning into a real creature with a real soul, believing that he deserves his own life beyond the confines of the spell itself.
Though not particularly religious, Billiam has had dealings with Torm directly and was instrumental in warping a portal from the Far Realm into a passage to Torm's realm, creating a safe haven within the depths of the Undermountain. He has also cured madness from several prominent members of However, during the spellcasting ritual to seal away the Far Realm, the twisting nature of it has caused pieces of Billiam's personality to fracture and warp, unknown to Billiam himself.
Billiam's current exploration of Undermountain leads him closer to Halaster Blackcloak's home, where he hopes to have a reasonable conversation between the two mages. As they are both rather insane, this should go completely fine.
