A few different examples of the Vaeili of southern Galdeia.
(general information)
A lightly hooked beak and a smooth head is are traits of the most common vaeili breed.
The chitin crest is a mark of few heartland vaeili and is seldom seen in the south. Carefully carved and grown over a lifetime, a full crest is seen as a mark of significant status across much of the continent.
Females generally grow a singular pair of major crest horns, a second pair of "nub" horns may emerge with age, but females that are thought to harbor significant "male ancestry" can grow a much fuller set of horns. The beak tends to be wide, stronger, and shorter than their male counterparts.
Some breeds of vaeili still display significant feather growth, in the south these are among the minority of the population. The harsh environment is thought to be the reason for these "feathers" to have twisted into thick fibrous strands. Some consider any feather growth to be unsightly and to regular plucking sessions.
Vaeili feather growth is usually localized along the back, upper arms, collarbone and back of the head.
