The unfortunate thing is that the dead friends mentioned weren't actually friends in the conventional sense. Fanny is a very difficult person to get along with, so their "friends" were more just people they viewed as somewhat equal and having similar values, more like people they could debate religion with.
I don't think they've had a true friend since becoming a God, so a redemption quest for them would likely be focused around teaching them how to form a friendship and that having friends who you enjoy spending time with is ok.
