Willan and Cadeyrn were traveling together, they were separated since then, unable to see each other again. While Willan had to deal with the overwhelming nature of his new life, between his sudden and imprevisible dimension travels and the mundane problem of having to dealing with unknown technologies akin to magic (from his perspective), Cadeyrn didn't lose hope to find a way to join Willan again.
Both adventurers had to deal with grief and patience. The liger traveled to the furthest limits of his world, unearthing old myths and arcanas and crossing angry oceans and climbing craggy mountains to find something that would help him. He had a simple plan he decided to bet everything he had on it. While the feline was no master in his domain, he had a quirk that let him teleport from trees to trees he sometimes had to use to surprise his enemies. It had limitation of course, as he'd need a trunk big enough to enter and another to exit, and it needed to be both of the same species.
The last piece of the puzzle was to find a legendary tree, an ash so mighty that it was said it kept in his branches and his roots together different worlds. So if the liger found such this tree and entered it, he might found a way to leave his world and search for his pal Willan.
On Willan's end, all was tied to faith. He had no assurance of Cadeyrn's attempt, if there was still such a tree in their homeworld our if the liger thought about it. With only faith, patience and luck, as Willan found on his own a special seed, one of the mighty Yggdrasil, he knew what to do and put it in the soil of his garden, hoping that some day, he would see the face of his friend coming out of the bark of this growing sapling.
