I don't believe I really did much pencil drawing by the time I hit FA, but in my old Deviantart days, I started with pencil and paper and just obsessively drew foxes over and over again on any paper I could get my hands on. Naturally I changed mediums over the years, and for a long time I was stuck on digital art and did basically no traditional as it was more sellable, would reach a larger audience and generally got more attention. My time of being a self employed artist also involved almost exclusively digital art and since my large burnt-out gap of producing no art I have been wandering mediums. It felt good to try and do detail in pencils again, but it turns out mixing a charcoal pencil with your standard leaded pencils makes them look so GREY! My gosh! There is also white pastel pencil doing some nice lifting.
I felt like I could have tried to go further and really detail the feathers... but I tend to find I get "stuck" before adding complex details. Like thinking I will ruin it or not really knowing what should be detailed and what should be left alone. I used to offer highly detailed commissions which were so much work and since then I have learned I was doing too much, but I have not found my balance... And I have already moved away from the pencils and started playing with alcohol markers again, hahaha.
