Today's Bug: The Atlas Moth! Native to China, India, Malaysia and Indonesia (Those who've played Animal Crossing before should be familiar with this species) They are absolutely massive, but despite their size once they complete their metamorphosis they don't eat at all since their proboscis are too small and weak. They can unfortunately only live for about a week or two. Like most moths they are active at night and their only goal is to reproduce. When Atlas Moths are caterpillars they eat enough for a life time (or in their case, two weeks) keepers who rear these moths often complain that they'd eat so much there's basically no enclosure left! Maybe their tiny proboscis are to repent for the amount of gluttony they partake in as youths. This species can even produce silk! Like silkworms, they use this silk to make their cocoons. In Cantonese, their name means "Snake's Head Moth", this is likely because the tips of their wings resemble the head of a cobra. Sticking with this theme, when threatened the Atlas Moth will drop to the floor and writhe around, using its wings to imitate the head of a snake to ward off anything trying to hurt it.

oooh! that's one pretty moth! I always thought moths/butterflies would be really hard to get right (at least colourwise), but you've done a really good job! And with the lighting too!!! your lighting is incredible once again. I'm about to note every bit of the piece so I will stop here ><
I personally like to think that they eat so much in their youth, feel reallll full, and then forget that they will still need to eat when they grow up. Either that or they are repenting for their gluttony.
