Continuing the theme from my last two posts of this girl. Artist is vena_Tasuh and character is mine.
When Düs returned home from her costly endeavor she was quite lost, no longer capable of using the wings which had been a source of pride for her once. Her flock cared for her as best they could but it could only do so much without some new pursuit in life.
Then, one night, she heard a whisper with no apparent source that told her to enter a cave. She walked for what must have been hours into the depths, well past the point of vision's usefulness but only when she found a dim light did she stop. A luminous thread as thin as a spider's strand connected roof to ceiling, seemingly innocuous until she plucked at it out of curiosity. An ethereal tone rang from it, and she had her first ever vision of things to come: In one week's time, a great tremor would collapse nests on high and tsunami would flood those down low. Her flock would be nearly wiped out if no warning came soon.
When her eyes cleared of terrible visions, she rushed out of the cave and began to warn anyone who would listen. Needless to say, her vision proved true. Only those who took caution survived the quake. Yet there was something else; Düs could now see that luminous thread from the cave everywhere, emanating like whiskers from the faces of others. If she were to pluck at them, she could even see faint snippets telling how those threads may be woven into the tapestry of fate. As great a power as this could be, though, she decided she'd used all her ambition in this life.
Düs now serves as the closest thing in her flock to a true leader: Elder, Seer, secluded guard of her kin. Her incredible age of 400 years easily cements her as the oldest gryphon known to live and - despite her nigh whispery voice - gives her eminence in speaking. The older and more weathered a gryphon is, the more weight their words tend to carry among kin.
Of course, 200 years living mostly in caves takes a toll on anyone. Düs' eyes are constantly squinted due to their light sensitivity and she appears shorter than she once did thanks to constantly hunching down in caves. To compensate she's learned to echolocate better than any bird like her and to read gryphon writing with her talons. Her legs have also grown stronger as her wing muscles withered, giving her a stocky appearance and incredible leg strength even by gryphon standards.
Lore will be continued in next post about her.
