Many years ago my brother and I took a camping trip to Maine. Most of the time it rained; when it was clear you had to find your entertainment where you could. After breakfast one day we had a plague of these monsters descend on the camp site. I whacked one with a sneaker. Another one came to feed on the contents of the first and it also got whacked. Just as you describe, the cycle repeated every few minutes.

this was very fast. they nest must be very close, because was like in vietnam movies with Hueys arriving literaly all the time non stop
