From a simple catch to a global empire—at least in his head. Follow a fisherman’s descent into a grand daydream while a clever fox treats his cart like an all-you-can-eat buffet. This 2026 remaster of a 2017 original writing brings a classic trickster fable to life with new, learned lessons.
I have a blast from the past for you all! One that can at long last cease it's gas lighting of my memory haha! Back in college I took story telling classes. In addition to creative writing, these classes focused on telling a story from a stage to a gathered audience. For the longest time I have this book in my room called "Best-Loved Folktales" and I always thought the story I am presenting to you all came from that book which I shared in that classroom. In truth, and this completely slipped my mind, this was an original work from 2017 and I didn't realize it. I always thought it was a fable or folk story from history. But after googling for a day, head scratching for a week, and pacing the room in thought did I realize it really was my writing.
This week's post and the final of January 2026 goes back to 2017 as a result. Not only is it a great lesson to remember, but I figured it was a nice window into how I used to write. It shows how far I've come, gives a quick read for you all, and honestly feels like it sets up 2026 on a good note. If I'm better at this after nine years, and rushing into new projects and life goals at long last, then why not give a nod to where it all started out? I hope you all enjoy and let me know what you think! That and yes, you can make fun of my writing both from then and now. Perhaps that's why my brain gaslighted itself? Who knows haha!
