He was there, balanced in stillness. A Giff, vast and scarred, standing on one leg, almost motionless, barely even breathing. When he opened his eyes, I felt... weighted.
“Your body has not yet learned that it is yours,” he said.
“Sit. Breathe until it does.”
I stayed because the tunnels behind me were worse. I stayed because hunger obeyed him. I stayed because he asked for attention, not obedience, even though, looking back, I was eager to provide it then.
He granted me sanctuary. He was brutal to laziness, but patient with my failures. Words arrived only when motion failed.
“A body is a question,” he said, adjusting my stance.
“Every day you answer it poorly. Tomorrow you may answer it less so.”
Only after a week passed a thought occured to me to ask him his name. A concept of addressing him anything other than "Master" came to me suddenly. He was pleased with my inquiry.
"There. You start to unshackle." he nodded.
"Names hold power, for they summon your attention. Titles hold none, for they merely state your status, and seldom are spoken with candor."
"Hexameron." he pointed to his heart.

I adopted Hexameron from
Shamerli She's created the best Giff/Anthro Hippo design I've ever seen! Once I saw I just had to adopt. I think Master Hex will make fine company in the River Monastery.
