Recently, I have been doing a lot of work in redesigning 'my' Tri-Dragon forme (Eastern Dragon, Western Dragon, Guivre) by actually studying real animals: in this case, snakes (notably the viperine water snake, though I tried to keep that sleek head shape), bats, bighorn sheep, and even wani. In this case, I decided to lean more into the bat and bighorn sheep aspects, ince those parts tend to be sidelined when designing dragons. Another important reference is French (because the Guivre is o French origin) armour, which dictated the way the scale pattern and even the limbs look. This means tha Tri-Dragon Marcus would look very shiny, not just in the scales, but also the horns, hair, membranes, and the like; I just kep to flat colours because they would have interfered wi the reference.
Several specific inspirations include:
• Overall scale pattern: Elektronx's interpretation of Toothless (https://elektronx.tumblr.com/post/141183999252/) (https://elektronx.tumblr.com/post/142288584967/)
• Ventral scales:
Izaak's old esign of Maverick (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/54019254/)
• Mane: RusCSI's Sindrius (https://www.deviantart.com/ruscsi/art/A-Dream-of-Illusion-page-41-293225749) and
Therussbuss's Qahveddann (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/44584746/)
• Eyebrows: several people's different interpretations of Bowser
• Moustache: Alakazam from Pokémon
The black outline is not part of the reference, but rather a way others can see how the mane, head and frills are supposed to look. The actual palette is derived from the following colours of the X11 Palette:
• Gold (#FFD700): Main scales, wings muscles
• Rebecca Purple (#663399): Ventral scales, hair, wing membranes, irises
• Bisque (#FFE4C4): Horns, claws
• Black (#000000): Tongue
• White (#FFFFFF): Teeth
• Light Coral (#F08080): Buccal mucosa
This reference is provisional. I would like to do more work, but I already spent a lot of time and energy in getting this right. The final reference would be far neater and have more views of him.

Congratulations on reaching another milestone. May you keep enjoying your character project.
Always fun to read about certain inspirations. The world of Dragons leaves a lot of room for Reptilian/Amphibian/Serpentine interpretations, and many Scalies I have come across like to combine various elements in their own preference which can lead to all kinds of neat results.
One can definitely see you have been pouring a lot of effort into this first vision of your Marcus. Nice work on the orderly painting, the pattern linework and the information. Design-wise well though out and the furry elements and facial hair give them a certain style that makes it feel like the character himself or somebody else is keeping the hair mostly well kept. I know it is most likely just to show the look of their jaws but I cannot help but imagining Marcus giving off a bit of a mischivious or snickerish vibe with that.
May you keep enjoying your time with your Tri-Dragon and other potential character projects in 2026. =3

>Congratulations on reaching another milestone. May you keep enjoying your character project.
This will be a slow project. My rea life comes first.
>Always fun to read about certain inspirations.
I feel thankful that someone is taking note of these.
>The world of Dragons leaves a lot of room for Reptilian/Amphibian/Serpentine interpretations, and many Scalies I have come across like to combine various elements in their own preference which can lead to all kinds of neat results.
I am actually surprised at how common th element of combination actually is.
>One can definitely see you have been pouring a lot of effort into this first vision of your Marcus.
Th is actually my... *checks*... fourth vision.
The first vision is this: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9194086/
You can tell tha the traits that I put here are present in the first vision, though not executed properly back then.
>Nice work on the orderly painting, the pattern linework and the information.
Wait, what do you mean with 'orderly painting'? /sincere/
>Design-wise well though out and the furry elements and facial hair give them a certain style that makes it feel like the character himself or somebody else is keeping the hair mostly well kept.
Also... what do you mean with 'mostly'? Moreover, how do the furry elements contribute to that style?
>I know it is most likely just to show the look of their jaws but I cannot help but imagining Marcus giving off a bit of a mischivious or snickerish vibe with that.
I noticed. The intention was actually having the viewer see the teeth and buccal mucosa (the flesh thing on the jaw).

There will be more... hopefully before ArtFight.

I mean, what's better than brainstorming several things you find un and interesting and combining them into a happy mix, right? It's definitely what I like to recommend whenever someone comes forth with something like a search for ideas. It's great when subjects youinvest yourself in can become the source of not just creative projects but deepen your intruigue and fscination in all kinds of media, skills and general fields of science.
Oh, simply praising the care in the linework. It looks very neatly done.
I read about how beards in terms of fashion have a lot of their own care procedure and the way it appears to me based of ow your characters' hair looks like, that it might not just grow like that nd is maintained to look gorgeous (you lnow, like in those gentleman clubs where they give rhe beards that twirly appearance). At thesame time, I was not completely sure if the flow of th hair wasn't still giving off a bit of a wild feel to them. Anyways, hair and fur at least in my understanding often make characters look a bit extrafabulous and add that cultured aesthetic.
Apologies if I phrased anything badly and puzzled you with that.

What may be tter would be thinking something completely original. Then again, I am just repeating critics here.

Here is a funny fact: only th eyebrows have a wild feel! The moustache is definitely finely kept, hough th ends comes fro Marcus twiddling the moustache quite a bit. Both parts of the mane are also carefully brushed that way.
