Balloon Otter Pirates
During his youth, Rayleigh stole a dragon noble's ship due to them tearing his house down and needing a place to live. Sometime after that, he met Jacob D. Arthur was impressed by the ship. Jacob said that it was a fateful meeting and asked Rayleigh to join him. Rayleigh simply laughed at his invitation and declined his offer. Despite his initial refusal, Rayleigh later engaged in piracy and became first mate of the Balloon Otter Pirates.
Several years have gone by and Jacob fell ill from an incurable disease and decided to make one last grand voyage to turn the world upside down and get a former Decidueye assassin named 43 to serve as Jacob’s bodyguard to keep an eye on the rest of the crew. They soon came in contact with a red Riolu and Mr. Mime as cabin boys aboard the ship. He constantly scolded and even wailed on them for getting into a lot of petty arguments, though the duo still looked up to him.
The crew soon came into contact with an enemy pirate ship and it didn’t last as not only did the crew end up as diapers, and even stealing all their treasure before sinking the ships leading the crew to celebrate with a big party. They soon docked at Pangoro where 43 met his fellow order member Cinderace who insisted his son Tai would be great additions to their pirate crew. 43 vouched and Rayleigh agreed with Jacob and Tai was welcomed on board the pirate ship.
After running low on supplies they headed to the Mist Continent to resupply and maybe even add more to the crew. After docking they met a renown swordmaster named Clef who wanted to join to keep an eye on a young Krokorok named Kroko who was very eager to join the crew.
After several days of sailing they were near the Grass Continent and both Jacob and 43 wanted to pay a visit to an old friend of theirs.
As the duo docked Jacob left Rayleigh to care for the ship and train some of the newcomers. Many tried to challenge him but despite being a dragon he was very laidback. As much as he wanted to turn the crew into diapers for challenging him he decided against it and just demanded they clean and tidy up the ship before the captain gets back.
Several hours later the duo came back and much to Tai’s surprise his good friend Seth is also joining the crew.
Rayleigh would train the veterans while 43 trained the newcomers such as Tai, Seth and Kroko. It made Rayleigh chuckle when 43 was pissed that Seth and Tai lost some silverware during training and were ordered to clean dishes without dinner. Kroko, not up for doing cabin chores, decided to jump ship and start his own pirate crew that would overwhelm them. Clef asked if they should go after him, but when someone jumps ship they are no longer a crew member. Clef decided to leave the ship also to go after him, at first Rayleigh was against it, but Jacob told him to let it go, so they continued sailing.
Several years have gone by and the crew reached the final island Laugh Tale, Jacob after obtaining everything in the world decided to leave everything he owned on the island. He decided to disband the crew by taking them home and vowing to never reveal the location to anyone. News soon spread wide and everyone hailed Jacob as King of the Pirates thus the crew constantly got challenged by enemy pirates.
Darkgator Siege
Several years went by and everyone dubbed Jacob as the pirate king and he decided to leave the pirate world for good and return to his eggs at Crown Reef. As they reached Siwa waters the crew soon got attacked by their former crewmate, Kroko who now became a captain of his own pirate crew The Darkgator pirates. Kroko demanded to know the location of the One Pamp and even kidnapped a Pelipper from Crinklz to make himself the new pirate king and claim the world’s treasures that would make him king of the world.
The crew did their best and despite their best efforts the crew lost to the Dark Gator pirates, Kroko even striking down his former captain, leaving the Red Lucario a scar across his eye, left 43 in a critical state, and threw Seth to the Sharpedo infested waters.
Rayleigh managed to free the Pelipper who uttered Jacob’s last words that he left the One Pamp somewhere in the world and that all pirates were free to take it if they could find it thus creating the Great Pirate Era that Jacob unknowingly started.
After the news broke worldwide Kroko decided to fall back and plan a raid on Siwa, Rayleigh barely managed to escape with the Red Lucario and Mr. Mime and sent them on Rescue boats. Tai also managed to get himself a lifeboat, Rayleigh decided to leave Jacob and 43 to sink with their ship as it what they would’ve wanted and he mourned about the loss of Seth as well.
Rayleigh decided to retire as a pirate due to the bounty on his head and he can’t return to the Dragon kingdom anymore. He figured he’d live on Blizzard Island as it would be fitting for him given no one would bother finding it. As he traveled up the mountain and made a home in a cave at the summit he saw an injured Articuno named Sal who managed to escape from some poachers. After nursing Sal back to health the two forged a friendship and Sal decided to be Rayleigh’s personal diaper and often his mount.
Rayleigh managed to become a Crinklz subscriber and Sal would help guide Pelipper’s to the den. He read that Kroko took down the Siwa Royal family and usurped the Siwa throne. Years went by and soon Rayleigh found himself reunited with his old crewmate on Resort Gorgeous at the Sevii Islands who became captain of the Red Lu pirates. He asked what happened to his left arm, he told him he gave up his left arm and took a bet on a very young Buizel named Edward who turned out to be Jacob’s youngest son. He also told him about his daughter Isabelle and that both inherited their father’s spirit wanting to form their own pirate crews and becoming King of the Pirates. Rayleigh just laughed at the idea and actually hopes to someday meet the young Buizel.
Meeting the Strawcat Pirates
Several years went by and Rayleigh ended up becoming a gambler and frequenting juice bars much to Sal’s annoyance. Rayleigh himself even offered to be a slave to the auction house on Five island and eventually rob whomever bought him after escaping. Rayleigh overheard that pirates struck a Hisui noble and it ended up causing an uproar and Rayleigh decided to make his move while saving the other slaves.
There was a silence in the auction house and everyone except the Strawcats were knocked out by an unknown force. Rayleigh saw that the commotion was caused by a Lugia who was gonna be sold to a noble for five hundred million poke.
Rayleigh managed to get the pamp collar off the lugia, but they soon heard that the noble summoned one of Mako’s powerful subordinates to arrest Edward and the other pirates who happened to be on Five Island. After fending off some Charmeleons and Hakko os they all decided to hide out at Resort Gorgeous his wife runs.
After everyone settled in, the Srawcat’s found out he was the infamous Silvers Rayleigh, the first mate of the Balloon Otters pirates who served on the Pirate King’s ship.
He also brought up that Shanks and Mr. Mime were also apprentices as well, he was surprised that Edward never told him.
One of Edward’s crewmates asked if the One Pamp was real but screamed that Edward would rather have fun and be surprised than sail on a boring adventure. The Strawcat’s decided they’d help the Lugia get back home, he told them to let the sea guardian know that they were a friend of the Balloon Otter Pirates as William always admired Jacob.
Several days passed by and the Strawcats were unlucky as one of Mako’s powerful subordinates arrived and perma pamp the Strawcat pirates on order of the noble. Rayleigh decided to battle against the admiral while the strawcats escaped. Luck was on his side as a Tyranitar in a black coat named Kuma, one of the warlords interfered and caused a massive sandstorm so that the Strawcats could escape.
After the aftermath he revealed he was a member of Akira’s group and figured this would really bruise the noble’s pride, Kuma soon vanished telling him that a war is coming and make sure he has a front row seat.
He swam by a nearby island where he once again encountered Edward and was even surprised to see Jacob’s daughter Isabelle as both captains fought over treasure.
After meeting the legend himself Rayleigh offered to train Edward as he wants to take part in the upcoming war. He did recommend that both crews temporarily disband for a few years to train and get ready because if they couldn’t defeat Kroko then they wouldn’t be able to fight powerful foes such as the Emperor’s who are notoriously even more dangerous than Kroko. He offered to train Edward himself since he wants to see for himself what Shank’s sees in Edward. So the crew decided to disband and train rigorously and be ready for the war, they all promised to meet up on Island 5 again someday.
Training Bickering Weasels
Rayleigh took Edward to Blizzard Island where he offered Edward a challenge to get to the top of the mountain and survive its harsh climate and aggressive pokemon. If he managed he’d train him. Much to their surprise Isabelle followed them finding it unfair as she wants training from her father’s vice captain as well. Rayleigh did see that she inherited Jacob’s stubbornness.
He had both weasels go to the opposite sides of the island and survive, Edward offered Rayleigh his signature straw hat and to keep it safe while he preps the climb. He told them they had to use their own instincts and if they call for Sal at all they’ll fail and be sent back to Crown Reef to live the life of luxury which they didn't want, he also banned Edward from using his devil fruit powers.
Several months went by and both weasels managed to reach the summit surviving the harsh climate and turning many of the vicious pokemon into diapers, sadly Rayleigh didn't allow them to keep the diapers. Thru did prove themselves worthy of training and he unlike stuffy royal training he'd push them on the brink which is what they wanted.
He estimated if they do well enough the training should only be two years and he was gonna spar, exercise and train them roughly.
Unlike Isabelle however Edward showed more potential due to having Conquerors Haki and she didn't but her Observation and Armament were to notch.
Training was going well but often he overheard the two bickering and arguing, and even sometimes battling each other. It annoyed him but it was helping them train. They soon mastered the Haki skills and it was time to move onto their more latent hidden abilities.
Siwa War
Two years passed and both Edward and Isabelle have the skills and training needed now that Mona 2 declared war on the Dark Gator pirates, he and Sal dropped them off at Island 5 to reunite with their pirate crews and see his two pupils off.
They asked if he was gonna take part but refused as his and Jacob's era were over and it was their era to carve.
They eventually found themselves surrounded by both Hisui Hunters and Dark Gator pirates, after clearing out the rabble they saw Rayleigj see them off declaring one of them will become King of the Pirates, telling them to follow their dreams and never look back.
Rayleigh stood in front of the Dark Gator pirates telling them they'll have to go through him making them stand down.
As Rayleigh saw both his pupils sail off he shed a tear of joy at how far Jason's offspring has come, his wife says that they've become fine pirates and Rsyleigj even stating he'll stick around longer wanting to see the new pirate king.
He then returned to Blizzard Island to wait to see how the events play out.
Siwa Aftermath
After finding that Kroko lost the war and was incarcerated, Rsyleigj felt a sense of relief as he returned to the sight of the pirate raid. Surprisingly he ran into Shanks again whose crew helped set up a memorial for the Balloon Otter Pirates now that they were avenged.
Rsyleigj jokingly told Shanks to be alert as Edward might come after him.
Shanks of course hopes he does to see how far he's come.
After paying their respects they once again parted ways and Rayleigh went back to regular ways often reading up on Edward and even Isabelle's actions as he feels one of them will inherit Jacob's legacy.
