Astrid is a fierce warrior and valiant guardian renowned in the Sagas as the winter maiden and last light of the tundra of Uhrwecht. In another age, long past recall of many skalds, the icy north of the kingdom was forsaken, relinquished to the fimbulvetr of cultists drawn out by the darkness. Their icy claws and evil designs made ruin of the villages laid from the furthest mountains to the glacial edge of the foothills, and all the peoples of that northern fief were twisted to the cult or slain in turn. Those by chance or grace who escaped turned to the sons and daughters of fallen warriors, prayers held that they would know the courage of their lineage and embrace the fury of their fallen families. In the final battle at the slopes of the mountains, Astrid, now orphaned daughter of a warrior of the Ulfheonar, her blonde hair glimmering like the rising sun, cut through the ranks and took the head of the cult master before succumbing to her wounds. For her bravery and victory she came under the watch of the Allfather and was reborn, the first of the new cycle of Valkyrie.
Now residing in the Valiant Hall with the sisters she's since gained over many long years, Astrid moves between the realms to judge the slain and bring back the worthy to Valhalla and forever enshrine their deeds to the gods' home. Though all Valkyrie possess a silver-tipped spear and unmatched skill with it, Astrid is also a champion of sword, axe and bow, thought few ever live long enough to appreciate the full might of her challenge. She favors the color blue, a cold contrast to the warmth of her golden hair which glows with strawberry hues, and her clothing is patterned with the stars and branches of the World Tree, a symbol of her first connection between the realms and the icy starlight that watches over Uhrwecht.
Being the longest-tenured of the current cycle of Valkyrie (many hundreds of years by any reckoning), Astrid has the most fondness for mortals of any of the sisters, and finds herself in the current era spending more time watching them through the iridescent mirror of the Valiant Hall and descending to their plane to judge to worthy up-close. Although she's tender by nature, brave, kind and merciful, she is, as the first valkyrie, a picture of terrible wrath and peerless battle whenever need arises, and judiciously exercises both aspects of her demeanor on any foolish enough to cross her, or brave enough to earn her favor.
(...and her favorite berries are blueberries!)

Stay tuned, the rest of the Valkyrie sisters have been drawn and will be posted this week! If I want to be known for anyone it's probably Prince Rilohn and then the Valkyries after that so I made sure to give them all proper reference and I'll be cleaning up their lore blurbs a little so they get info out about them too <3
I sincerely love your work. The time and care you put into each individual and their stories and backgrounds is always wonderful to see and read. One of these days I should get around to writing all of my own character backstories. They've all been rattling around in the attic space of my head for... far too long LOL.
Astrid is certainly a personal favorite of your characters, followed by many others, but your work overall is what got me following you years ago and been happy to see your work evolve. I will patiently (and giddily) look forward to your posts this week ahead!

💕 I just love combining world-building, history, mythology, I only ever get to show the tip of the iceberg of thoughts I have in my head but I've been addicted to making sure my characters have lots of backgrounds and intertwine with their worlds! I appreciate you always leaving me such nice comments 💕
I have a couple of characters that have a variety of AU-type, non-canon themes and settings to their stories. Like you, I also enjoy the sandwich that is world-building and mythologies depending on the character. I love writing out the general scope of what I aim to have the character experience in their lifetime up to a common point where "Character A meets Character B," depending on theme and story, of course. Guess it sort of came with the territory of enjoying writing growing up for certain research projects, and then later as an adult learning what [E]RP was about. Sometimes good story is best built with others! :D
A character (or set of characters) that fit into a world and realm that you make, and in a way that really ties them all together can be just as fun as designing the character(s) themselves. For some stories I've even gone as far as to make shoddy MSPaint doodles to depict infrastructure of locations or den / home space designs so fellow writing partner(s) can experience what I see in terms of locale.
I genuinely enjoy your work as an artist and writer. It has always been something that drew me to following you and I hope it's not too much that I yap in your comments from time-to-time. Appreciate your time as always!

There's something I find endlessly tantalizing about "armored arms and legs but the general chest, abdomen, groin area remaining mostly if not entirely exposed" aesthetic. Practical? Not at all. Kinky? Hell yeah.
Though, I suppose if you're an immortal valkyrie whose entire thing is prowess in battle, I suppose she can get away with it.
(Can I smoosh her cheeks?)
