It's not strange, it's natural. Chris clearly didn't think Michael would be a cooler father to Jasper than he was, which meant he got a scolding from his brother. And yes, Michael will tear everyone to the British flag for his nephew and will not stand on ceremony with those who will at least do something to make Jasper upset.
