The truth is that Roxanne knew this day would come.
Having spent the previous part of her career investigating political corruption and shady corporate dealings she was no stranger to pushback from her targets. The more skeletons someone has in their closet the more desperate they are to keep them locked up.
Only knowing Emmet Underwood, his idea of "pushing back" would involve Roxanne waking up one morning as some hideous creature—something gelatinous and orally challenged if she knew her science fiction. So when she did inevitably find herself changed she breathed a sigh of relief to discover her new shape was that of a decidedly un-hideous wallaroo!
Honestly, what was that wombat thinking? She was Roxanne Belvedere from Adelaide. Her best friend in high school was an Eastern Grey! If Mr. Underwood wanted to intimidate or frighten her he was way off base!
But she knew exactly what he was thinking. Emmet hated being a kangaroo so he imagined everyone else would too. Such a breathtaking combination of ignorance and arrogance! She could only laugh to think that this was actually meant to stop her. If anything it helped her cover more ground!
It was when she went to grab her camera that her attitude changed. Somehow—someone had replaced all her professional photography gear with cheap disposable cameras!
That was definitely part of a larger message. And she didn't like the connotations of it one bit.
