Long after Gunnr's time of pastoral lifestyles and tribal factions the continent slowly drifted back into their warring ways, spurred in part by the Crossing. People, far removed from their bloodied histories, forgot the cost to achieve and nurture peace, and factional rivalries renewed into open war. Magic left the minds of skalds and keepers and crept back into the world, creating mystical and dangerous areas at the sites of past conflict where Draugr would rise and fend away the living. Farmlands deteriorated into fens and swamps and an unrest that would last for many decades returned to Uhrwecht. As battles dragged on and sites of fallen warriors gave rise to more tatters in the veil that separated realms, the creeping threat of dark influence invoked the revival of the uniter kings of old and the common enemy pushed the feuding tribes to, perhaps permanently, return to a unified state.
A fresh lass by Valkyrie standards, Vyldris got her wings just a year ago in Uhrwecht reckoning. Born right around the turn to unity in one of the poor villages outlying the renewed capital, Vyldris, in her youth, would watch warriors pass through town and march to battle, dreaming of being a shieldmaiden but ever-restrained by the needs of her family. Eventually moving to work in Uhrwecht's castle as one of the servants and housemaids, Vyldris was among the most common of folk in service, picking mushrooms, cleaning, always a necessary but unremarkable asset to regular life in the country. When King Raghnar, tired of his arranged marriage to his wife Ingrin, began to favor Vyldris, it afforded her the opportunity to hone her skills with weapons and war and learn the trades she'd previously had little free time to practice. Although insisting on her capabilities, the lingering darkness in the lands remained powerful, and during a Draugr raid in the outlying meadows Vyldris met her match against the hordes. King Raghnar, blaming himself for bringing her unprepared into battle, pleaded to the Gods for her potential, and she was given the wings of the Valkyrie with a renewed spirit and a purifying motive.
In addition to ferrying the Einherjar, Vyldris serves as a representative and direct liaison between the Valiant Hall and the King of Uhrwecht, and offers guidance in the fight to cleanse the lands of the remaining impure magics that, if left alone, would continue to seep into other realms. She prefers to wield the iconic silver spear of the Valkyrie as well as the axe and shield she favored in life, and is lethal with both, quick to temper and the most furious of the five sisters, alight with new purpose and fueled by the flame of battle that invigorates any newly-risen maiden. She wears the crimson colors of war adorned with the symbols of the berserkir, a warning to trespassers against her homeland and against the might of the Valkyrie, the gods they serve, and the mortals for which they are the bulwark. Although she wrestles with all things that newly-ascended Valkyrie must learn - controlling her battle-fury, using her wings, mastering knowledge of war in weapons and arcane elements - her eagerness and devotion is never in question. She can be as playful as she can vicious, and the only thing as terrifying as her wrath is the thought that she’s only just begun to tap into her potential. Her kinship with the people of Uhrwecht and her favor of the King may be the last piece in a storied saga that ultimately unites history, culture, myth and magic into Uhrwecht’s golden era.
