Danny "Swamp Rat" Griffith, is the most famous dragster driver of all time in the U.S.A. He has been building various Top Fuel Dragsters for many years, to get up to the top speed at some of the Nationals. He previously named some of his Top Fuel cars "Swamp Rat" throughout the year. But Danny then got his nickname from his dragster cars. Because he is from Florida and is one of the fastest drag racing drivers who has ever managed to get up to 250 mph before. He is a very professional driver in Drag racing tracks and knows how to handle such muscle-thundering engines on all his dragster cars.
He also has three employees who help Danny during the Nationals event. Jonas "Friendly Lynx" Saulo, Danny's best Crew Cheif and good friend. He is also from Sweden and is very interested in Dragracing. William "Happy Gator" Miller, Danny's first mechanic and Designer for his Top Fuel Dragster and designed Danny's ideas for many years. Paul "Honest Wolf" Thompson, Danny's other mechanic and Sponsor contact. And Michele Griffith, Danny's wife and is also the one who gives her husband hope, she and Danny have two little ones who are big teenagers.
Danny has been trying to get to the top speed for a few years, more than just 260-265 mph. But then one day he, Jonas, William, and Danny's two grown children built a new Top Fuel Dragster and named it "Swamp Rat XXX". On the front it has two small airplane wheels, and on the driver's seat it has a special protective glass and has carved "Rat Under Glass". But despite the new dragsters-built, Danny made it to the Semi-final in the Gator National, right at the start, he got a great start and won big and the crowd cheered for Danny's triumph.
And why is he being praised by the crowd's cheers? Well, it's because Danny has not only won the semi-final, he broke the new speed record of over 272 mph, which means that the Swamp Rat has managed to top all of the speeds of all time, except for 265 mph. And in the final, Danny managed to win his 30th national victory and is the oldest driver in drag racing history ever. Until a year later, after winning his 35th national victory, he retired with his beloved wife, spending some time with their grandchildren in the family.
Rollriver's words:
This new art drawing, which I have inspired-created, is dedicated to Don "Big Daddy" Garlits, who actually won the 1986 Gator Nationals and took his 30th victory. But most importantly, he managed to top speeds of 272 mph with the "Swamp Rat XXX". A historical fact. Until 1992, Kenny Bernstein became the first Top Fuel driver to top speeds of 300 mph, and on the same drag racing track in the Gator Nationals, despite being a bit of a Top Fuel rookie in 1990.
