is there really a model of the Jeremiah O'Brian?

I used to be a plastic model building fool. I still have all my modeling stuff, and some unfinished kits at home. All the finished models got mangled in moves or given away. Wish I had time to start doing it again.

There are several scale models out there of Liberty Ships like the Jeremiyah O'Brian. The newest was just released by Dragon in 2005 and is still available. There's also cardstock "Paper" models, and even an HO scale model for those who want to add a freighter to their dock side railroad collections. I believe the latter is more than three feet long too.

I used to be into models, but then I spent a decade moving around a lot. A few still survive, but they need some minor repairs.

My Grandfather was one of the people who helped build the 'Jeremiah O'Brian', when he worked in the shipyard in Maine.

Oh man! That is interesting news. If anything, the "J.O.B." is moored up in San Francisco, and they offer daily tours and twice a year excursions. I enjoy visiting these "Floating Museums" and getting a chance to chat with the docents and caretakers on board. It's kind of like "Living History."

My Grandfather was a welder, and he told me he burned his initials into a bulkhead in one of the holds...
I got a chance to go on-board a few years ago when she came to Portland ME. It was so cool to be aboard something my Grandfather had a hand in building.

Youth is wasted on the young is very true. When I was young I was very into models but I never had the money to do what I wanted. I even worked in a hobby shop for a while and loved it but I could never afford good tools and supplies so I made do. I won a couple of local model contests even. Now, 25 years later, I have the money and even some good tools but the drive to do them just isn't there and the time to do them is even scarcer. Oh well.

I do believe I see a P-51 and a Bf-109 on the left there! I'm a big WW2 buff. I used to build a model or two when I was much younger; nowadays I don't have the time...
