More characters from my alien species in development!
These two were characters, or rather character concepts, that I'd had in my head for a long time. They're especially connected to the lore of Mars and the war he commands.
BUT about these two beetles, they don't have names yet, but they're father and son. They used to be very close, sharing the same positive curiosity about their surroundings and any new visitor to their world. A couple of differences to point out are that the king isn't always as patient with everyone, but he still loves all his bugs, especially his son. The prince, on the other hand, was the calmer and more cordial one, occasionally acting as a mediator in disputes/conflicts related to the government. You could say that thanks to that—and his adorable nature—he was a prince beloved by his people, and with good reason ^^
Ironically, the prince was the catalyst for his race's war with Mars.
REGARDING THE DESIGNS, I wanted the king to have some colors in his palette similar to Lloyd's, and I wanted them to look like Lloyd and Mio together—a kind of parallel. I don't know how well I achieved it, but I can't say I didn't try. While searching for the right color palette, I came up with this pattern for the large beetle, and now he looks like a rainbow stag beetle, for his status as king, I think it ended up being a good match. As for the baby, there's not much to say. I used a palette similar to the father's. He was also originally a teenager/young adult, but I ended up leaving him as a baby because they're adorable ^w^ and to make the parallel I was trying to draw more clearly :0
Now, I don't know how often I'll be drawing these characters due to their level of importance in the main story, but above all, I wanted to get this idea out of my head once and for all, since now I have a concept with these aliens that I already like.
And speaking of this alien species, if you happen to be interested in creating a character around them, keep in mind that this lore is based on my personal story/world. You can use it as a reference or create your own unrelated lore if you want; it's supposed to be an open concept, after all :>
Anything else to add? I don't draw insects very often, but I think I enjoy it a little. Some beetles have really pretty color patterns to paint, hehe :3
