Haha a sort of follow-up to my crazed 5am post of a sketch for Portfolio:

Today was very busy, so I only got to work on it a bit, and had a big critique with everything else from a series with this little guy. But I'll share this, because it ties in with some old art!
2008, senior year of highschool, I drew the same character:

And I gotta say... uh, wow?
Also, I'm really enjoying drawing and painting with pastel brushes now. I've recently gotten sick of the 'smooth' digital look in my work.
Photoshop CS4.

Oh man. I am really loving this.
such great construction and feeling of depth.
i love the look and feel of the light. it is something i have been pushing for and wish i could get a grasp of in my own art.
also, the color pallet is fantastic...
id love to get a hold of a pastely brush D: where ever did you acquire it?

If the file is still up, it's Kalamu's pastel brushes, found here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SRL0UXMS
As to his visor, the helmet design is pretty odd too fit his ears, but it actually does curl in like sideburns, and that's what the visor is attached to. Hopefully it will be clearer when I paint the helmet in fully. :)
