I know the proportions are quite off, but this is just something I've been working on during the little free time I have had lately. Plus it's nice to draw something besides an icon. Hopefully you guys will think it's nice, too!

Thanks! I've been browsing fA and looking at what I love the most in other peoples' art, and I think that I need to work on my depth with shading. I've always told people, 'Don't be afraid to go dark!" but sometimes feel I don't follow that myself. |D; So yeah, I'm experimenting with different colors and Photoshop tools and stuff and just seeing what happens. I'm glad to hear that so far it's working out well c:
Glad to hear it!
Alright, I think your big problem here, aside from your aforementioned proportions issue, is lighting. It is difficult to tell where the light source is, and best I can figure, it's from below? You've got a lot of conflicting light sources, Lugia's back is in shadow but so are the wing tips, making this quite jarring.
I also think you need to focus on improving your cast shadows. I think here that your tiger would be partially obscured by the shadow cast from Lugia's massive bulk. Always my best advice is to learn from life, but I do have a few artists that you should look at.
These guys have prime examples of good use of light, color and shadow Dolly Niking Centradragon also, I implore you to read this tutorial in its entirety http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm
