Im addicted to these now, thanks alot.
Most of my issues with crazies stem from our generations views of entitlement. I have nothing against people who want free art. However when they give me these elaborate and time consuming projects I expect to be paid for my time. I give things away out of the kindness of my heart, it looses is appeal when its asked for, or demanded. I suppose i wouldnt have a problem with people if they didn't act like asshats when I told them "sorry no" or, yanno READ.

I think I was present for a conversation like this once, or strikingly similar on your LiveStream. Because I know I read this before about how "you should give me free stuff and then I'll tell all my friends how talented you are and more people will want your work" . . . missing out, of course, they'll expect it . . . well, free.
Me? I feel guilty every time you give me an option of free art, and I think I still DO owe you money. Hmm. Need to go sit on that temp agency about whether or not they put me in their system yet.

Yeeeah, frankly I've never been too comfortable with the idea of requests and freebies and all that. I mean if its something an artist can throw together darn quick then its okay, but, most art takes time, and it feels wrong to take up so much of another persons time without offering some sort of compensation in return. Guess its okay for artists that are starting out and need both the practice and exposure, but even there I think the requestee should be least advertise for the artist or SOMETHING!
Also, people need to learn to fully read through an artists commission status/rules BEFORE approaching them.

Amen! and i know i dont complain about this because i find it bad form on my part but often when I offer a contest drawing for free art cards the people who win give me these crazy complicated things to draw. its only happened a handful of times and not a huge offense because i DID open myself up for it. But Some courtesy would be appreciated. Still I love doing art for people and if ive made a freebie for someone it fills me with warm fuzzies especially when they totally appreciate it. And to be fair even the super complicated cards have come with showers of praise so hard as they are the rewards are often worth it.
My usual answer. Fuck off to such people in a way i treat people as the way they treat me. Someone fucks up on me i fuck up on him 10 times more and at the end say your a fucking douche bag! Or better some times ignore them. And if someone demands something like that then well then.....
People tend just to have some issues with expected entitlement, some of them deserve to be smacked for it, but in some cases its just a thing of where they're mentally incapable of hearing the word no. I dont blame people for asking, and i try to be polite even in the face of stupid. Sadly my integrity as an artistic professional prevents me from swearing at my customers, unless they REALLY really deserve it, but even then i try to keep my replies to biting cordiality than being outright uncouth. It comes back to bite you in the ass more often than not, whether or not the person deserved it, it reflects badly on you.
hmmmmm your words in some case are right but in my opinion a bit wrong.
Not from what i say bad will bite me back later but from what i do will bite me back later. If i say something bad to someone but what i do. Sorry for the bad description.... Im foreign. And i will say it again that if im rude to someone cause he is a douche or a ass it wount reflect bad on me. P.S. Sorry if i pissed you off

I can understand paying for art made by others... Its the few artist that charge way too much for their work. Or horde their work like its their own. Had one arts who sent me very angry notes because I posted a piece I commissioned from them on my FA. I stole her work apparently.
Wh...at? If i have issues about artwork im commissioned for (and its only if it features only my characters) i usualy tell the comissioner if im comfortable having it posted up or not and hope they respect my wishes, but otherwise if it doesnt feature any of my characters its pretty much free game so long as they're cool about how they put it up.
That seems fair enough. This issue has only happened once before and most other artist have been wonderfully reasonable so I can't complain. The relationship between artist and buyer is interesting one. Having known a few that do commission work for a living most tell me that their work is little more than a product they sell to willing buyers. Once the trade is complete they care very little what happens it the piece. Its simple business. Which is why they become somewhat milfed when people demand freebies I guess.
I picked up some color pencils and started drawing again after a several decade hiatus form art not quite 2 years ago when I was introduced to the fandom and my muse returned. I started posting my work 2 months later and almost immediately, started getting people asking me if I could draw something for them or would ask if I did requests. As innocent(and ignorant) as a new born babe, I politely replied, I'm sorry, I'don't feel I'm ready to take commissions yet. And this continued. I didn't have a PC of my own at the time and was totally ignorant of the real (furry art) world. It actually took me quite some time to realize that they were asking me to do stuff for ffrreee. AKKkk, Choke, WWhaaa??
Don't get me wrong, I would have considered it if approached in the right way.
I've had a Mac for several months now and I am now starting to take commissions as a trial thing. After reading your series of "Crazy people" bits and coming to this one, it hit me, this is true, OMG, are the other things going to happen to me too or other equally crazy people things? I shudder with the thought and take pity on you.
In retrospect, I wonder how many of these requesters had a coronary, conniption, or serious seizure as a result of me suggesting that they actually pay for my work? :)

it will happen
it may not be as bad it may be worse. when it happens you'll want to gnash your teeth, and head straight to artists beware. Step back, chill, and then, laugh. and Laugh. At the end of the day, these people are mentally defunct and you'll feel like the last sane man standing, but it can be funny if you see the humour in it.
