Leaf Subsides to Leaf
"Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf,
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day
Nothing gold can stay."
-Nothing Gold Can Stay by Robert Frost
She casts a sad glance and a sweet smile over her shoulder, an expression that is beautiful but still very solemn. You wonder how such a gorgeous creature could ever look so somber.
However, she knows that your life, unlike hers, is as ephemeral as the leaves on the poplar trees that line her wood. To her, your life lasts as long as the blink of an eye, as long as the glance she gave you so kindly.
If anyone can understand the truly bittersweet nature of the changing of the seasons, it would be a creature wonderfully cursed to watch it forever. Time marches on no matter how many leaves fall at our feet, how many friends we lose, how many years we waste.
Art trade WIP for the talented luthiennightwolf of her personal character, Luthien the elvish wolf, and her horse, Kel'gor the Arabian. She said she wanted something with them in some Autumn woods, and I thought it would be neat to play off of her wonderful drawing and story here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6594365/ where Luthien herself laments the dual natures of being immortal.
Done with micron inks, copic markers, india ink, and gel pen on bristol board.
Also, go check luthiennightwolf's page out! She's a great artist and wonderful to talk to and deal with if you're lookin' for a nice piece of art. Here's her half of the trade! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/6961332
Characters belong to luthiennightwolf.

Said it once, I'll say it again, you are a master when it comes to backgrounds and coloration.
It truly looks like an area of my home I've seen before, so many colors and leaves and hills swimming all over the place. lol, if I were to find a good picture of my backyard, you'd probably draw it and bring it out better than any digital camera would.
I also love the flow of her hair, it reminds me of my girlfriend's ^^

Awww, thank you! I've made it a goal of mine to get better at backgrounds. Now I really REALLY need to quit being a coward and actually try more interior spaces and some cityscapes and such.
Oooo, if your home looks like this, I wanna move in lol!
And thank you for the kind comments. I'm glad this piece seems to speak to you.

Yeah, can understand that cityscapes and buildings can be difficult. I have a lot of trouble when it comes to drawing mechanical things like guns or cars too. But I think you would be good at it. I think I've seen a few glimpses from some of your Star Wars pics with them inside a starship or some such, and it turned out nice.
Hehe, my home can be nice looking like that sometimes, usually in the fall. It's blizzarding like crazy right now though so it look extra nice (to me anyway lol.)
And yeah it really does speak volumes, I find it very serene and full of life and movement.

an absolutely beautiful masterpiece, I am absolutly certain that I am going to grab a commision from you when the slots are available again, and may I say such coloration reminds me of the begining of fall looking at the gorgeous golden coloration of the leaves on the trees, when I look at her face I can see the smile and at the same time the sorrow, how do you feel about drawing ice and snow?
First indian buffet, then Hobby Lobby and now this...this is, as Spongebob would say, the BEST DAY EVER. lol
I literally had to just sit and stare at this for a couple minutes just....WOW. I don't know what else to say except you are awesomesauce. <3 I love that you used red and green for her clothes, it really ties into the holidays a bit, but in a subtle way. :) And that horse with all his pretty decorations is just gorgous, for this being your first time drawing a horse I'd say you did pretty damn good. :D This is gonna be my wallpaper for quite a while, and DEFINATELY going in a pretty frame on my wall. Thank you again, a thousand times over, for all the amazing art you've been doing for us. :) Can't wait to see what else we can come up with - collabs, trades or otherwise.

Awww, I'm glad I could be part of such a good day!
I know you're picky about art, so I'm so proud that you agreed to do a trade with me. As you know, you're one of my favorite artists here on FA. I'm glad you're really happy with the results. It was nice to try to figure out a bit of Luthien's world...you know, what I think an elfin wolf's lands would look like, how she would react to being seen, etc.
Yet again, I'm honored you like this one so much! I'm glad to help to decorate your wall.

When I was younger he was the first poet I learned to read. I loved The Road Less Traveled. I used to study and study that poem every night before bed until I knew it by heart. I even stood in front of class and recited it for my teacher. He has a way with words that not even I dare try to reach. He can move you with a simple phrase or spin your mind with lyrical rhyme after lyrical rhyme.
He was a God among mortals in the realm of the written word, an art that has I am sure died along with him.

You know, I love all of his poems, but I think The Road Less Traveled will forever by my absolute favorite.
Lol, I think most people like my backgrounds a bit more than the characters in them now, which is fine by me since they used to be one of my weakest points in my art. Had to shape up on the backgrounds. Now I have to find a balance, but life's a dance you learn as you go, and art's just a part of that for me. Thanks so much for the thoughtful comment.

Wow gal, this is just gorgeous! I envy your BG skills and admit that seeing this makes me want to break out the markers and try my hand at some nature scenes, haha. I always love the way you manage to blend your characters into the environments so well, as I may have said in the past. But this is another perfect example of what I mean! Beautiful work.
*blushes* I'm so glad you like this, grrrl! Backgrounds used to be the worst part of my pieces, and some of the folks here were kind enough to point that out in a gentle way, so I tried to get better with them. I'm glad it seems to be paying off. Thanks so much!
Gotta make time for it! I get paid either in art or cash to do it, so gotta take the time these folks deserve on their pieces. As for the specifics, I take quite a few breaks so that I don't make stupid mistakes (or cut down on the frequency and number of them at least).
Wow, I mean, looking at the quality of your art (and I mean art, not internet "art" like my humble kind) it strikes me that you must be spending a huge chunk of the day doing this, all while working and with social commitments.
I guess I can say that you inspire lazy bums like me to work harder in general.
