Most of the time, my cats know when I'm stressed/upset. Something about a cats pur as they sleep on you is just so relaxing. A nice hot shower, sitting in bed with a good book and two cats sleeping with you? Now that's heaven.

They sure do, though dogs feel it way more then cats do. I remember when I was younger, I fell off my back and got hurt pretty bad. This dog passed away a little while ago, but was still pretty old and sickly at the time I fell. She came into my room wanting to come sleep with me which she never did.
Pets just know. I had a complete stress breakdown one night and couldn't breathe from crying so hard, and my dog came over and put his head in my lap. This wouldn't be considered too strange, but I'm not always nice to my dog. He's very naughty. I think he knew, though, how upset I was. ^^
Its actually scientifically proven that petting a cat (or a dog) releases hormones in your body that helps you relax. in girls, apperently its the same hormone that gets released when holding or caring for a baby. Wierd huh? But yeah... I miss my little girl. She's a sweetheart. I just hope she's being taken care of. :/
My dog,Sassy is this way with me. We own several animals and they all seem to have their own personality. My cat, for some reason, loves men way more than women. Though our dogs are rather aggressive towards men. The men in my family are very loud, though, so I think that's what sets it off. If I'm under the covers and dad, or any other male tries to touch me, pat my shoulder, whatever, my dog Sassy will growl and snap protectively. Aside from protection of course...she's the sweetest thing to have around when I'm feeling blue. She always nudges her head under my hand and licks me if I'm lying down sad.
