A project from a photography book a friend bought me as a Christmas present,The Complete Guide to Digital Photography by Ian Farrell.
The project is about using a scanner to capture images of three-dimensional objects. It mentions if your scanner is also made for scanning negatives you can use it to scan leaves with the light behind to get nice images of the vein structure inside the leaf. Mine doesn't but it game me the idea to try and pick out this detail by editing the image in Gimp. I converted the image to mono as I often do and inverted the colours then tweaked the brightness and contrast to highlight the veins.
I might try a few more like this when I find something interesting that will fit in my scanner
The leaves are Bay leaves from my garden.
