My first yule log! Chocolate sponge cake, with vanilla buttercream inside. The outside is rich and VERY thick Ghiradelli chocolate buttercream. I used a fork to make the bark texture, then sprinkled the top with powdered sugar.
Made this for the local SCA Yule Feast, which is happening tomorrow (Jan. 14th), their theme this year is Sherwood Forest :)

My mom was telling me of when my grandmother was young and used to work downtown, she used to get logs that were yellow, with banana cream inside O.O Oh man, that sounds so yummy! I'll have to see if I can find a yellow spongecake recipe for a log and try that with banana cream sometime :)
I was originally going to make marzipan mushrooms, but it's so hard to find marzipan these days =P
And I seriously swear...maybe I should try working in a bakery one of these days...I've been on a serious baking kick for the last year or so O.o

Oh cool! I need to save that link...I don't have a coffee grinder, but I do have a mortar and pestle, although I can only imagine how long it'll take to grind the almonds by hand O.o Still though, that's handy to have around in case I want to make it by hand :)
Thanks for the link! =D
