Makes me wonder how much damage a tropical storm would do... Those types of islands can be like a little spot of paradise (geographically), but then get washed away with a single wave.
There are some very sad stories about what happened to the inhabitants of such Pacific isles during WWII... many were used as slaves, and then executed.

Here in Guam the locals were forced by the Japanese to build bunkers and other buildings for slave labor, and then when they were finished they would cut their heads off. The Japanese made films about how they were trying to teach the locals about their culture and their language but it was only for the "lucky" few. Ironically enough, the biggest source of income for Guam is the huge amount of Japanese tourists that come through here.
A good bit of people that reside here are military along with Chamoran or Filipino and I am also USA military personnel, but i was also born here thanks to my parents. But I was hear when they did a little memorial on the date the Japanese invaded guam, it was interesting, they even had survivors that were there the day of the attack.
BTW to the artist this is yet another great piece! It makes my day when i may enjoy another segment of this grand story.

I was wondering if Dhaval could do this, so I did some on-line research. It turns out that slaves often attempted escape by stowing onto passing ships. Sometimes it worked, especially if the captain was sympathetic, or needed crew.
In Dhaval’s case, judging by his physique, he could be an asset on a merchant vessel. However, he doesn’t speak the languages of the visiting crews, nor does he have sailor’s skills. Without someone like Amon’s help, escape in this manner is impossible. Perhaps later he could convince his “madam” to let him bring in extra coin by working the docks – he’s very strong after all. If she falls for it, he’s be gaining skills and making contacts. Sooner or later an opportunity would present itself. If he could hide some money he could bribe someone to hide him aboard a ship, or perhaps a sympathetic captain would help him out. It would probably be trivial to circumvent a “collar check” at the docs with a well placed bribe.

Your art always amazes me. And your characters combined with Alector's fantastic background work is just flooring me. Definitely picking up this one in print form.
I came by your table at FC a few times to try and catch you, say hi and gush over your art for a minute, but every time I made it you weren't there at the time. I did enjoy what you had to say at the adult panel on Sunday night. It's very nice to have an artist's perspective on the whole thing. I love authors, especially your panel mates, but a different perspective makes panels even more interesting. I hope you had a good con overall. I will see you at FWA, perhaps with a better con budget to purchase goodies from your table.

Fuck it, I'd kill my self if I were in that position. Maybe some could let live their lives that way, but if I can't control the way I live, I can sure as hell control the way I die. Then at least it might be said that I died according to my rules. I mean, they are at the top of a cliff that looks over the sea . . .
And now that the cold, cruel truth about their situation is made abundantly clear, I'm hoping Amon will now give him some moral support on how to make-best the situation, and hopefully tutor him on how to cope with the other 'hard' truths that he's about to endure?
Lovely scenery, as always. If I HAD to become a slave, a tropical island sure would beat the slums of any major city! (that silver lining concept, don't ya know?)
I'm 'IN' for purchasing this, when it comes-out. Not that the edited scenes are the main reason, but to actually show my support for the collaboration you two artists have done, and for sharing it with us mere mortals!

Great pages Rukis as always..
Just one humble comment... wouldn't it be better to have the left text balloons more to the left?? If this is going to be a centered page that folds, wouldn't the middle folding of the comic bend just in part of those balloons?? If you already have this covered.. then forget my comment ^^
Can't wait to be able to buy this comic (specially the hardcover one ^^)

wow the scenery and the words seem to actually go to together. For me It's like standing there and seeing just how vast the ocean is and how tiny the island actually is. And then those breaks on the reefs really wopuldn't be something to tangle with. A lot of tropical islands are really notorious for the huge breaks along their shores. I've seen some the ones in Hawaii. I love this picture tho. It is so wonderfully done.
