Finished!
I think most of you will see which one is the king.
I posted a WIP for this a while back, and I've been making changes to it since then. I decided to use the dragon, but add some more symmetric foreground elements, so the piece as a whole doesn't look off balance. I think the final composition turned out well. The converging lines in the background were especially fun to work with. Warm color schemes are addictive, too.
This piece was quite a lot of work.
I always want to make each piece of art I make better than my last ones, and one way I go about that is by putting some more time into the details.
This one went through several different revisions, but after spending so long on this picture, I think I'm in the mood for some quicker pieces next. This one had over 100 layers. :-P
That may not be the pinnacle of efficiency, but at I am proud of the final result, so the time spent was worthwhile, in my opinion.
Enjoy the art!
Comments and criticism are always welcome, too.
For those looking for a good wallpaper, a larger version can be downloaded from DeviantArt. It would break the formatting here, unfortunately.

Nice. *wallpapers it* Reminds me of Susan Salina's work...there a Golden Dragon reigned over a land, but He was shifted into a Dreamland universe.
(His kind was called Dreamers, and they could influence the very weather, and manipulate a lot of existence, while sleeping. This dragon was a nice one, when He was awake, but His anger could kill anyone in the land...)
This Dreamer was in the capital city's throne room, and His very own body was the floor and throne itself, but He shifted reality, and everyone saw only the throne room...On the throne currently sits a dark elf necromancer, but He is not favored by the Dreamer, but is allowed to do as he wants, for reasons untold yet. Anyway, the heroine of the story wonders what would happen with the dark elf tyrant, if the Dreamer would "snort" in His sleep.
This picture captures the "Dragon in the throne room" feeling! Good work!

Susan Salina is Her pen-name. She is a hungarian fantasy writer. Her works are truly amazing. The world she built and the role of dragons in it is a major plot element. It's a shame that it hasn't became as popular as example (Twilight, Harry Potter, etc...), because the story beats the Lord of the Rings in the ground...well it's not a hard thing to do, since Lotr was written way sooner.
The plot (roughly) is, that In Drakonia a few tribe of dragons rebelled against the rest, but lost the war with them. As punishment, their souls are ripped from their dragon bodies, and they are forced to live in human bodies. Thus the insanely strong human with the dragons full consciousness is called Kiorg. The Kiorg is like a dragon, but mortal, and when it dies, the soul returns to the slubbering dragons body, and have to reborn once again after a 100 years or so...
...such is the punishment for the Dragons of Ashbar. They are trapped in an endless cycle, forced to live with the human, which body is appointed to them. The victorious clan of dragons, the Dreamers (Dream-bringers actually) are watching over the Kiorgs, as they are not premited to leave the land of Ashbar. For this task to be completed, a young male dragon was appointed, and given all the powers of the Dream-Bringers, to be able to watch over the land of Ashbar, which is torn apart by the War of the Kiorgs...
The main Heroine is a young witch in a swamp, who is accidently blinked into an Orb of Vision, and one of the mightiest Kiorg Lord (there are 6 of them) blinked back...She is drawn into the games of Kiorgs unwillingly, but Her young attitude will shake the very land of Ashbar. She is the girl will have a Kiorg soul too, but not become one, and the chosen representetive of the Dreamer dragon.
It's a really cool story, where the Heroine never gives the proper respect to any dragon. If a dragon is tasked to fly Her to a castle, she incites the dragon to hurry up, by kicking it's side...like humans do with the horses. The dragon who carried her by order was not pleased at all, and the rest of the passengers were praying to the gods, that the heroine stops provoking the dragon any further...She only asked the dragon, to not be a meannie, like that. The dragon was speachless by this arrogance too...also amused that somebody is so brave to speak to dragons as equal.

They are dragon story masterpieces, I'll tell you! Also a side info: All fantasy book covers are done mostly by Tibor Szendrei. http://bokalm.qwqw.hu/?modul=oldal&.....artalom=785597

That is one of the possibilities I was thinking of.
I'm sure there are people that would take orders from a human with an impressive pet, but might not work for a dragon directly.
No matter what the human's title is, the dragon is probably the one with the real authority there.

Thank you very much. It's an honor to hear that.
The perspective and composition were fun to work with on this piece.
You have some great techniques yourself, so don't underestimate yourself. The shadows and atmosphere in your latest piece are quite good, and the painting style for the landscape is very effective.
The detail you included in Runa's feathers also provides a good sense of focus in the picture.

At first, when I was working on it, the coins were a LOT larger, but then I realized that I had to shrink them, so they weren't terribly out of proportion, compared to the human in there.
They are rather small now, but I'm glad you were still able to see them when you looked.

It's a fantastic piece! The sheer curve and fine look to the drake is magnificent, though if you're looking to have critique, it might be that your attempts to have the light 'sheen' on his scales didn't go far enough. It works excellently along the back of his neck, which is the place most would look for that, but there are places where his limbs are near to the torches, or in line with the open-sky viewing window but do not receive the same treatment. It somewhat makes me wonder if his scales are a lighter gold or a darker bronze/brass, considering the colors that play up and down his body. It adds a wonder to the piece, of course, but it's just something I noticed. The accessories are fantastic, though, and really make him look regal!
Thank you very much.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy this piece.
That idea with the light sheen is a good one. After I did all the shading in various parts of this, I applied a few gradients and effects to pull the piece together a bit more, and those sort of dulled some of the highlight in some areas of this picture. Adding a few more back in above that for some extra impact could have worked well. I'll have to remember that.

It has already been stated time and time again what an amazing piece this is.
So I really hate to be the only one so far to point out that the back heel looks a little odd. Is that just an error of observation on my part, or do you have trouble drawing that part of digitigrade anatomy, like me?
Other than that, I agree with all of these praising comments, the effect is overall quite magnificent, with some very meticulous scale work and very nice details. The nearly monochromatic nature of it also makes it interesting. I actually don't often see that kind of colour scheme in a detailed image like this, unless it's truly monochromatic.

The layout and color scheme were a lot of fun to work with. I think that bit of variety in the color scheme made this piece a bit stronger than a truly monochromatic color scheme. When I tried some less unified ones, they reduced the impact of the piece, though.
Thank you for pointing that out, too. I made several perspective adjustments over the course of drawing this piece, and those made some areas difficult for me to resolve... That heel was probably the part that I had the most trouble with. If you have a suggestion on how the positioning there could be improved, please let me know. There are always more techniques out there to learn and improve with. That's part of what makes art fun.
