If you look closely you'll see lots of little insect cocoons nestled in the salt crystals that have formed on this rusty metal cable.

It's part of a ten-foot dredging scoop that was left alongside a salt marsh near San Francisco bay. I don't know how long it's been there, but the entire thing is crusted over with salt crystals.
