Sketch-a-day #1 - Leather Dom Canine
I'm going to try a different approach to getting my artistic side going again (as my recent 24 hour comic attempt was a complete failure). I'm going to try and ease myself back into things by trying to do at least 1 simple sketch every day.
Here's the first. It was rather hellish forcing myself to sit and start drawing, and it took several attempts to draw something I was even halfway happy with.
I know it's not very good at all, looking at it now, I see loads of flaws. But it represents me drawing again after a period of diffculty and depression, so at least that's something good about it.
Now lets see if I can manage to do another one tomorrow...

Thing is, no pressure gets me absolutely nowhere. I end up doing nothing on the art front. And every day I do nothing is a day I usually end up feeling bad about myself.
I want to get back into producing art regularly. I miss it so much, being an artist is just a big part of who I am. I have so many ideas for pics and comics I want to do, to say nothing of commission obligations and that bloody last issue of House of Lazarus that needs finishing.
I just need to get through this block and get my creative energy flowing again, and that's going to involve me putting some degree of pressure on myself. The 24 hour comic didn't work, and I seem to have recovered enough from that I feel up to trying something else (something which did work for me before). If this doesn't work, I'll try something else. But I am going to keep trying.

Yeah I dunno, I kinda agree with what that other guy said try and do a hour a day [Even if you set a kitchen timer to a hour and HAVE to draw in that time] I just think if you make yourself do a sketch a day it'll be an annoying hassle scanning and uploading each one, you might be better off trying the "Hour" idea or doing stuff thats HOL roughs or commision roughs in that time, if they're not good OK its practice if they are good ink em and its a job done
The main point of this exercise is not really to produce pics, but to get my creativity flowing by making my brain work on something brand new every day. And it seems to be working, I am definitely feeling better on the creative front. The sketches themselves don't take very long once I manage to get going on them, and scanning and uploading hardly takes any time at all, so I still have plenty of time to work on other stuff as well, once I get to the point I feel ready to get back to the other stuff (at the rate I'm going that should be very soon).
And hey, its not as if this is going to be a permanent thing. It's just until I've got myself well and truly going again on my art.

OK thats cool, long as its working for you, but don't beat yourself up if you can't do 24 hour comics or whatever straight away its a bit of a jump from sketch a day etc to those
P.S take it you've seen the new Avengers trailer http://youtu.be/bGt-saFvkNk

also if you got comic or art ideas and not in a Art mood etc WRITE THEM DOWN, I used to write story notes etc on scraps of paper at work our out on delivery...then you got them to refer to if you're sat down doing the "Hour thing" or 24 hour comic or whatever so you're not short of ideas, write comics out like stage play scripts or whatever then at least the dialoges sorted for when you draw it or just do stickmen of whats going to be in each panel etc
Can tell that the dude's got attitude, but then again, you would need some to rock leather anyway. :P
Hope that this helps get the juices flowing again, I always look forward to seeing what you put up next, I'm just not one to leave comments all that much. Blasted lurker tendencies.

you know, there is something about your style that I have just missed seeing in my notifications. I'm very glad to see you've made something and shared it with us, regardless if you feel it has flaws or not. I would be delighted if something else would pop up in my notifications from you tomorrow =) Take care Cyberklaw!
