it's the fact that the kids, in most any school, are told to use the bathroom when not in class and do it during breaks or else they get scolded for having to go during class
hell, in 4th grade a kid in my science class wet himself because there was consequences made if you didn't take care of bathroom breaks before or after class, like there'd be strikes against you and you'd miss recess or get detention or something

=O.o= Wow. Mean school..I think most parents where I grew up would have had a fit, too.
Even in my 'supposedly far stricter than public' Catholic school I went to, bathroom wasn't a big deal..they encouraged us to go at certain times but if you really needed to in the middle of class it was just a matter of asking and taking a hall pass..yikes.

My high school were assholes about it. There, it boiled down to people doing drug deals in the school and stuff. We had to actually have papers that said when we left and when we went back, and if you went too often, you were pulled into the principal's office.
I think it elementary/kindergarten though, it's more about teachers being strict and not wanting you to disrupt them or something :s

Not to mention some situations where the teacher doesn't acknowledge you. :o When I was in first grade, I was put in "time out" for not paying attention in class. That was in the front of the class, behind the teacher. Raised my hand to go potty, she didnt see me u_u Waited, waited and waited cuz I was a good kid. She never looked. >:( And then I peed my pants in front of everyone and it was the worst thing ever in the world. ;_;
