11 x 14 pencil sketch
Anatomy and proportion has been killing me so I have been working on anatomy study the last few days. Wanted to start out with just 1 simple lion to work with but after a few minutes on the concept sketch, it got a bit more complicated. I guess I like a challenge.
I've been working on a couple projects that have been giving me fits and needed to do this. I will color this later on. Umm.. also wrote a short story to go along with this pic. Couldn't help it, it just came to me when I was drawing.
I would very much like critique on this and especially a redline if anyone has the time. There are still a few spots where things got complicated and I got confused.
She will have a ridge of hair running from her forehead to the middle of her back and I drew in the musculature just to see if I could get it anywhere close to correct.
I may scale this piece up a bit to fit 14 x 17 so I can do some nice fur detail.
The characters will be more heavily furred and colored a bit different than regular lions.
Oh, and they will be tattooed. That is what she is doing to him and he has already painted her. It is part of a marriage ritual.
Could have had a bunch of interesting titles.

Wow! That's a wonderful improvement! Powerful forms and a dynamic composition. I especially like the foreshortening on her left thigh.
Some things I picked out you might want to have a look at:
- His neck seems to disappear. You might want to give it more emphasis.
- There seems to be an extra tendon in his armpit (or rather, you would not see that tendon from that angle).
- The perspective on the hand holding the cup is out of sync with the perspective of the table (unless I'm reading it wrong). The stuff in it would spill. Maybe bring it down a little. Have the oval of the cup match the oval of the table somewhat.
- Her left flank could maybe have a stronger fold as the tissues move to accomodate for the lowered ribs
- Her lower legs look a bit too long. Mabe foreshorten them a bit more.
Also, I don't know if you're already using this, but showing a picture to a mirror is always useful. Takes little time and helps to spot out things you normally wouldn't notice.

Thanks!
Yes, the neck problem was pointed out by two others and I will work on it. Going to do a head and shoulders construct, something I didn't do to that part of him in the early workups. I get lazy sometimes and pay dearly more it.
His armpit area is what gave me more trouble than anything else and I'm still at a loss with what to do with it. I have a good anatomy book but I am still confused.
This is what I'm trying to get a redline on.
I didn't put much time in the hand with the cup, I knew it had problems but I knew I could easily fix it later.
The tissue fold in her left flank is much more pronounced in the other workups and this will adjusted.
I checked the measurements of the lower legs. The lower right leg is correct by my calculations but the left leg is quite a bit longer than the right when it should be shorter because of a slightly greater angle back. Easily fixed and it will look much better. Thanks!
I used the mirror trick regularly for the first few months then started forgetting to do so. I'll try and get back in the habit. I know it works.

Here's a redline for the armpit. I hope it helps.
