Birthday gift for Kumbartha 2012
Yes, It's March second once again, the birthday of my best friend in the whole wide world, Kumbartha. Now .... just drawing our characters: his demonic lion and my gecko would be boring, plus it'd be the same thing every year, so I instead try mixing stuff up each year by drawing stuff in theme of something that we both enjoy.
In 2010 I drew this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3500576/
and in 2011 I drew this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5341175/
This year I went for MTV's Daria....

I'm not even really sure Kumbartha ever watched the show, but he definitely read the Beavis and Butthead comics to know Daria's origins.
It was fun mimicking the original style, making our character style's fit those of the Daria characters... I mean we're both guys and Kehno Kumbartha is overly muscular and that's just the start! But as crazy as this idea is, I feel it fits:
1) Me and Kumbartha both have a Red/Green contrast theme, just like Daria and Jane from the show do
2) We both are sort of social outcasts who like to sit around together and mock the stupidity of the "normal world"
3) Our friendship is very strong, as is Jane's and Daria's.
And last.... I felt AWESOME changing Kehno's hair to match Jane's!
About the quote, it comes from one of my favourite episodes, "Arts 'N' Crass", I just altered it to match the context better. I am aware that this was a conversation between Daria and Ms. Li, not Jane, but I couldn't find a conversation between Jane and Daria that would really fit, so I went with this.
Also, I realize that in the show, the characters weren't really shaded, but a few people insisted I should still shade it, so I did.
And if any of you have problems with me using this classic series in a not appropriate way..... REALLY? This is inappropriate? Two smart and misanthropic people that observe the world around them, while being best friends.... this BEGGED me to break the boundaries of gender and anthromorphism!
Happy Birthday dear friend!

Neither can I hehe
Wow I didn't even really know that. I find it quite annoying how companies act:
Yeah, we're not releasing it on DVD and no channel airs or even wants to air the show, but that won't stop us from forbidding you to watch it online!
At least this got fixed and I might one day get that DVD!

Thanks a bunch for the comment and the FAV.
As much as I did send you a note about this, I seriously wasn't expecting you to be all that much into the idea.
I loved the episode, especially given how it's very much about art and the freedom of the creator. BUT, I still can't forget the very first episode where it's made clear that Daria, like Jane, is also artistically talented, it's just that in her case, she sees it as a mere hobby, unlike Jane, which again might be "somewhat relable" to me and Kumbartha: he's better than me", although I'm catching up to him ;)
