Rosepetal the Caitian is talking to Mightnight about some serious buisness but Starwalker Nimbus is not so serious while playing in space.
This is for the cover of Bernard Doove's next book which collects
various stories from his Chakat Universe, featuring foxtaurs, Caitians,
chakats, and Rakshani, on new worlds, space stations and starships.
Great fun to work on this ^^ it kept me busy for weeks :)

I never understand how anything can survive in space without full body protection. Blood would be forced out of pores and the body would practically cease to function.
Other than the laws of physics that stop me enjoying many works of art I still think you did a good job on this and convey the emotion well.

It is explained here how Nimbus is able to survive outside with out full protection

In my story universe, genetic engineering is at a peak, and creating a species that can survive in space is possible. Certainly a normal foxtaur would not be able to survive for more than a few seconds, just like a human, but the Starwalkers are far from normal, as Starpelt pointed out.
Not even close, actually. "Explosive decompression" doesn't happen with humans, let alone something designed to survive in a vacuum (it does, however, happen with deep sea organisms brought to the surface without proper pressurization, making them particularly difficult to study). They wouldn't even freeze to death as heat loss in space is very, very slow.
That said, the radiation would kill a human very rapidly, if suffocation didn't do it first.

I'm always forgetting my own stuff!
