Okay, I wasn't a big iPhone fan because I thought the choice of provider of AT&T along with the EDGE network was insanely stupid. I still do. What I DID like was the hardware. If I could have the iPhone without the phone portion and use the rest as a PDA, I would be quite happy.
By no great surprise, Apple released that very thing as their new 'iTouch' (Oh boy... that's simply a really BAD choice of names, guys....). I want one. I want one real bad. I'm willing to give up mint for a while to get one. I'll draw commissions. I'll draw myself doing whatever for one of these devices. I might even- well, okay so I won't give up mint, but you get the idea.
Anyways, here's my take on the device. This was a fun one to sketch out. It's a large pic on 9x12 paper. Wonder if it would be a good T shirt design. Hmm.

Oh my digital god... how did I forget about this keynote?! It was obvious the keynote was going to be about a touchscreen iPod(everybody's been expecting it since before the keynote was announced), although I was expecting more disk space. I see why they also have the iPod Classic. The pda functions are tempting, though.
It's not a PDA though. Jobs has made it very clear previously that Apple had no interest in producing such a thing.
It's the iPod Touch, not a PDA. It just stores data, allows access online, organizes your calendar, checks your mail and... um... well, does what a PDA does, but don't call it that. :)

It's nice, except for the lack of decent size, something that's kept them ahead of others for the most part.
I'd rather it be a bit thicker and have 60-80 gigs then just 16, especially for that price.
Unless the memory is increased, I think I'll be holding off on this for a long while.

You'll be waiting a long while, all right -- a couple of years, probably. A 64GB USB flash drive alone costs around $2800 today, and the area foot print of the chips would fill the entire current iPhone circuit board, leaving no room for the circuits that actually play back the media. :)
Taking Moore's Law into account, you're looking at another 18-36 months before memory vendors get the die capacity, size, yield, and cost down to the point where it's practical to put that much flash memory into a device in the iPod price range. And Apple already buys more flash memory than anyone else on the planet! There's a reason they keep the hard-disk based version around. ;)

That I can't answer, since it likely involves mechanical engineering issues, battery life, product matrix issues, or all three. The iPod "Classic" is probably Apple's way of hedging its bets on the iPod Touch, but that's just a guess on my part. Otherwise there's no electrical or software reason one couldn't build an iPod Touch with a hard disk, only a question of how big/thick it would be and how much to sell it for relative to the rest of the iPod product line.
Maybe that will be in the next iPod iTeration (couldn't resist) as the next step away from the original iPod design to an all solid-state product line.

As T-Shirt Design it would be definitely good! ;3

Hey Flinters, I have an Idea. You create an app called Flinters Roo and have it do some pretty unusual things. You could have the app throw the owner's voice out like Flinters and even have the app attach the thrown voice to an e-mail so that the recieving line can hear Flinter's voice an make it seem like Flinters sent them the e-mail.
Or, when narrating a video, you could have the app set up so that it could have Flinters voice narrate the video.
That would so cool and awesome. Don't you think?!
