Commission for
Everyone. (Press F5 to update image.)
Commission Information Here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3297657/
I have been poking at this one off and on for the last few months trying to figure out how I wanted to do this. I honestly hated working on this until about 2/3rds into the image, then it somehow became fun. I love and hate art. :|
So much work put into this. I could have easily spent more time, but the cost compared to the time put into it was getting stretched out way pass the limit, haha!
Anyways, enjoy!

Thread like objects are actually pretty easy.
Just draw a line basically, just not the same color as the color behind it.
If it's reflective, you have to keep in mind the lighting and positions the highlights according to the location of the light sources in your world.
Hope that helped. :P

No I'm going to tell you that I think the same about myself and that I see other artists think the same about themselves at times, too. I believe it's some sort of equilibrium that the universe tries to keep :P Make artists create awesome shit, but give them an uber-dosage of self doubt so they don't turn into world dominators or so
isn't it the most normal thing on the world?
we say "no" for pure lazyness, but when we pull our own weight and go halfway we ask ourselfs "how the fuck did i think of NOT doing this?"
that's kinda what happens with me all the time. but looking where i can get (like your level, for example), ispires me to carry my own weight until the fun part begins

I'd almost be afraid to know what it would look like had you spent more time on it. This is gorgeous; it's a very nice looking dragon and a well-drawn representation, I think.
Art is a funny thing. You find yourself in disgust of something, only to realize you don't want to stop working on it when it's near finished. (Or the other way around... you become so excited that you're frustrated and just want to see it done!) I, for one, think that it's well done for what it is, even if you think there was more time or effort that could have gone in. :3

I have found it's easier to draw for yourself/other people when you fix other issues in your life.
My example is my eating habits. Due to being on unemployment, I was resorted to crap foods until I could get myself motivated enough to deal with the Food Stamp office and get the support. (First commission went all to food btw, no fun money :| ) After starting the habit of eating better and more steady, I am now able to get more done with my day.
I hope many find this useful because something like this took me a while to figure out. That topic is almost journal worthy.

Aye. It's a lot easier to do something when you WANT to do it... not because you have to. That's why I always tell a struggling friend in their battle with artistry that they can't just expect things to happen on the canvas. So much better that way than to put yourself on the spot for emergency commissions and then find no motivation or inspiration to actually make the pen dance.
Such is a message that should be sent around, I think. A lot could benefit from understanding that simple concept behind desire and force... among the quirks that come with either cultivating the talent, or putting it to use for either pleasure or to put food on your table. Agreed, journal-worthy for sure, along with so many other little sidenotes that fit in there...
I watch you and others go through such periods as you described, or furthering self-discovery as an artist, and the results are as we see above here in more cases than none. It's part of the magic, I think. Always fun to watch someone with talent change and grow with their work. =)
