Flinters Hop Cycle
I haven't messed with Flash in years. I can see that I have forgotten a lot. Photoshop and ImageReady did hte work here.
Now sure how to get tweening to work with ImageReady yet. I just made up the pic with the head/torso as one layer, the legs another, the tail a third. The legs had a few variations in joint angles, so technically I suppose it was actually about 5-6 versions. Anyways, it let me have the roo land, then the tail dropped with the impact and when leaping again, the tail was delayed as was proper.
I think I need more frames in between to do it smoother, but it's a decent quicky.

Hey nice! I like how you were so economical with the image data, but still made it have good "joint movement" with the 5-6 versions. If you use tweens, it will look much smoother, and if the bitmaps are traced in Flash you might get a decrease in filesize aswell!
Oh yeah, and let's say you make a bunch of such anims like walking/standing/talking/pointing/key mouth and facial positions etc., that way you can have a nice Flinters template library to use with animated shorts:D

this is cool hon! tween can make things smoother in flash, but also sometimes keyframe animation works as well. depends on the movement and the style you're going for.
not to be picky, but there's one little minor thing i noticed in this. the movement is wonderful, but did you give his toes a separate joint? i noticed that when he comes down on them, he doesn't land on his toes, he kinda "scrapes" his toes. other than that it looks great. the bounce in the tail is a nice secondary movement. :)

No toe flex at all. It's a solid joint and not one I made separate. That would be something I'd have to fix in another release.
Tweening in ImageReady is possible, but all it seems to really do is make X number of copies of the first frame without any transition at all. Help for IR is... well, they assume you already know what you're doing so why are you bothering to read the Help function?

All the tweening seems to do, though, is fade between the frames(by adjusting the opacity of layers). This would cause the movement to just be rather blurry, unless tweening is much different in the current version of IR. I normally use tweening if I just need to do a fade transition between two frames.
the foot looks as if it doesn't sit on the ground when he lands. The leg motion is a bit stiff...and could use some anticipation and squash and stretch. Other than that..it looks pretty good.
Sorry if I am a bit critical..I use to be an animator as my study in college...and learned alot about animation and such. ^^;
