Basic goal here is to find everyone on FA who writes. Anything. And who's a writer-for-real
(or not) isn't quite the point. Writers are the only ones who know how to type?
(Notice on a list page: Everybody's identified properly. Writer, artist, watcher, fursuiter, etc. That's
the artist type from their main page.)
Why all this work? FA doesn't make it easy on those who write.. Readers can't read what--or who--they
can't find. With the FAWD in place, now they can find everyone (including you, if you want to stay
listed). Or at least now there's a better chance.
Call this project a blunt-force attempt to fix a problem--at least a little--that Admin can't touch.
I should point you at the FAQ-Ruleset, article #1; explains a lot.

For sure, this behemoth is *very* unusual for FA. But it's sorta based on something in RL that
we all know about.
Consider the phone book, and how it works. Look up a name, make a phone call. Here it's
look up a name, then read. Or just go browsing and read. 'S what a directory is for. Beyond
that, can't think of much else to do with a directory.
(Note one big purpose: To make it easier for fur writers to find and read *other* fur writers.)
And there's actually little more to it than that. The FAWD is not a group or anything. Or an
archive. There's no membership involved here. Are you a 'member' of the phone book?
Neither am I. The software behind this isn't even working very hard.
Only thing that counts: Does someone have stories or poetry posted? (One will do). If yes, then
that someone might have work other furs might want to read. Now those other furs stand
a bit better chance of *finding* it. And reading. Or that's the hope.
In RL. the phone company prints up the phone book without anybody even blinking. On
FA, you'd think the job would fall to Admin. Let's just say they've been busy. So did it
myself, and I could wish that FA had something like this from the start. Lotta folks on FA
who write [anything] tend to wonder who let in all those crickets, <Chirrup-chirrup!>.
Better late than never. :- )

fwbrown61(PS: How'd I do this time?)
We-ll, short answer is: With the FAWD, FA now has something v. much like a telephone
directory, only for anybody on FA who writes. Everybody knows how a telephone directory
works? Good.
Other short answer: With the FAWD, FA now has a tool v. much like what you'd find in a
library. The Author's Names card catalogue. Less the cards. Which ideally helps readers find
things in a library they wanna read--by way of finding authors--and the FAWD is out to do
*exactly* the same thing on FA.
(Aside: Since the FAWD's been on FA for over six years, maybe shouldn't say 'FA now has...')
It's just not as easy around here as should be to find writers and furlit you might want to
read. Not quite FA's fault; 's the way the place is built. How to fix this? Yer lookin' at
a good first step. Also, 'anybody on FA who writes' is dead serious. Writer-for-real or
not, it doesn't matter. Writers are the only ones who know how to type? :- )
Post a story or poetry sub, and that earns a listing (if you want it). *What* is written:
Nope, that's for the readers to know, not the FAWD, so isn't a factor. Actually, it's simply
flat-out bat-shit impossible to *read* everything that comes to FA. Way too much furlit
to even try. So don't.
To close, may I suggest a quick visit to the FAQ-Ruleset, Article #1, since a quick comment
like this can't answer much more'n squat. There are five concrete problems [with furlit on FA]
that the FAWD is targeting. Worth a read, but I would say that. :- )
Did this help? (This is FA. I've really learned to ask that).

'Lo A:
We-ll, ya gotta think that Furaffinity contains many furry secrets. Ie., a helluva lot of good art and writing. Arguably the fun lies in searching around all over the joint to find those secrets? True enough.
As you may have read, I got a little frustrated re. it's not quite *easy* to do that searching. Or at least about writing. FA does much better for artists, IMHO.
De nada. Took some work 'n software 'n database skills. Ta da: Here's the FAWD, that makes FA look a little more library-like. I'm not hiding it under a bushel, y'know.. :- )
However: This behemoth's been on hiatus for a while. Hasn't been updated since late 2020 ('cause a boatload of life-things went to crap on me). The FAWD's still at least somewhat useful, though.
Nearly 50,000 writer furs listed. Lotsa stories and poetry to find and explore. AND optimistic note: The project may be rebooted/relaunched later this summer.
BTW, I'll point you at the FYI Links section on the main page. Which lists a few more of FA's more interesting 'backrooms,' as you call 'em.
Fair warning: You could be on FA for *HOURS!!* (Wait a sec, he/she probably already is. :- ) )
