Created for Digital Artis Magazine Issue....whatever is out right now! I used Painter X.
http://www.digitalartistdaily.com/
The article is about fur with comparisons and contrasts with real fur and sculpted fur and how to paint it. I used some models from the Google Warehouse and traced the background structures, then painted forever. The statue is based on the Landseer lions in London.
I wanted there to be an feel of mystery and curiosity. The lion is curious about the stone lion while being a mysterious critter himself!

This is a really cool picture and is sort of fun to think about. Like how the lion statue, despite the rest of the ruins falling apart and turning green is still immaculate without any moss, or that chunk out of one of the arches that looks like a giant bite mark and the shape follows thru, like someone went all energy blast thru them or something. The arches behind the statue don't even look supported so you have to wonders whats going on up above or if there are more special things in that ruin than just the statue and the fancy lion.
I am glad you like it! I am also very glad that the feeling of mystery and wonder comes across as I'd hoped. If you'd like to take a look at the rest of the ruins, see here: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwareho.....p;prevstart=36 which is the model I used.
I could tell straight away the statue lion was Landseer Lion-inspired (I love that area of London, wish it wasn't so crowded though x3)
You pulled off the stone vs. fur effect rather well ^^
I'm really feeling the fuzzy warmth of that cat's curiosity ;3
Quite strange but pretty suroundings too... <3 floaty pillars and all
