I love Reis's 'Are you Serious?' face. It might deserve an avatar, s'all I'm sayin'.
This comic is a sequel! The first comic, 'Cruelty', can be read here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554/
Posting this disclaimer on every page, so no one can say they didn't see it. No need to read it if you already have, it's just for newcomers:
- This comic will contain adult content, swearing, violence, death, and some very difficult political and social subject matter. If you're the sort of sensitive person who can't handle that, this comic is not for you.
- Not ALL of the content in this comic will be posted online. I'll be withholding one of the adult scenes from the online release, reserved for the eventual print release. HOWEVER. Just like 'Cruelty', this comic WILL have one full adult scene posted online. Any complaints about the withheld content will be ignored, and likely scorned by the folks who DO enjoy what's posted online. So don't be an ass.
- This comic is GAY. GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY! I cannot express this ENOUGH, seeing as there was some confusion with 'Cruelty'. This comic follows the storyline of 'Cruelty' regardless of which 'path' you took, but it is assumed the characters eventually began a relationship. The comic deals with gay issues, as well as a gay relationship. Deal with it, or GTFO.

Nope. He's absolutely correct here. And Marcus called him out on it, though he was incorrect about Reis caring about him getting hurt. Marcus did strike a nerve though, which is why he did the PDA. He knew MArcus was right, he's quite deep in the closet because of his internalized homophobia.
It's been established by side conversations that Reis is, at least primarily, in the closet, and not open about his sexuality. Marcus never once said there is only one way to be gay. He never said that Reis wasn't fabulous enough. I had a boyfriend for one year who had internalized homophobia so much that he would introduce me as his friend to his friends and people he knew personally, and avoided being seen in public with me or doing any PDA whatsoever. I wasn't asking him to "act gay," but rather to act like my boyfriend. There is a huge difference. Kissing, holding hands, and supporting each other isn't "gay," that's what couples do of every sexual preference. Hence why Reis put his arm around Marcus. He wanted to show Marcus that he cared about how he felt, and in a way, he was admitting that he hadn't been there for Marcus before. (And had he been there for him, maybe the protest would have turned out differently, or they would have conducted a private, less confrontational interview. If Reis was truly involved in Marcus's personal goals, he would have known about this protest when they first decided to do it, rather than a phone call from someone else.)
Most heterosexual people are very open about their relationships to others, or at least to the point where they don't deny their relationship. It can be assumed that Reis does not want to be associated with "the gay crowd" and wants to be unknown. Even when Marcus's group isn't doing anything activist or dangerous, and just having fun, it was also established that Reis was almost never present at these functions. This suggests that Reis actually IS (or was) uncomfortable with his sexuality. I'm not saying that he is wrong to feel that way either, even though it is really sad and he shouldn't have to feel that way and society shouldn't be making him feel that way.

Uh, Marcus, you're talking to the guy who kissed you in front of everyone after your highschool graduation and gloated to the bullies about it. I don't think he has too much of a problem being "out" in public. And while you might be technically correct in a sense that what you just did wasn't "aggressive", it was certainly confrontational, and that's not a much better way to go about things either. Confrontation, especially provocative confrontation, more often then not, begets conflict, rather than resolution.
I think you missed the part where the pastor hates gay people. That kind of limits the amount of things they possibly could have done to peacefully resolve the conflict to somewhere between "jack dick" and "not shit," as bigots tend not to listen to the people they hate. Fortunately, they weren't looking to pursue that fruitless endeavor, and instead went in with the intention of provoking the pastor into shooting himself in the foot on camera and sabotaging his political career, to which end they seem to have succeeded.
Yea Reis you show Marcus..
in case Marcus forgot.. HE KISSED Him After GRADUATION !!!!
And I dont think its fair to fling the "Afraid of being outed" thing in his face....
That is just asking for a fight.. theres a difference between "Being outed" and "Let's piss off an INSANE REVEREND"
Excuse Reis for being worried about his mate's safety...
You'd think that Marcus could have SOMME Sympathy about people "Coming out of the closet" since he has been there himself..
Oh by the way ....
WHAT DID REIS MOM WANT Oh no we forgot that phone message

Hee, nice callback to this ( http://www.furaffinity.net/full/3728349/ ) page in Cruelty.
In any case, I don't think Reis is afraid of being out, Marcus is simply trying to change the subject from the protest. Reis has so far kissed Marcus in public, called him his boyfriend in the face of the homophobic pastor. He's not afraid, he is just not as driven as Marcus is.
To me, Marcus is as driven as he was in school, the problem is that while at school most of his allies were atleast his age and somewhat sane, as an adult he gathers people who are hurting and are looking for any excuse for revenge, near him. And he is refusing to accept it. I'm not saying that they were wrong to protest, I'm saying that he is ignoring the danger of said thing because he himself is a sensible person who can bite his pride and back off, he isn't seeing the fact that some of his friends might not be like that.
Anyway, great comic Rukis. It tells something about the story when there is as much debate about it as there is here.
