The very short explanation is. . . this is the cover to 'Unconditional', the sequel to Cruelty.
I've started posting the comic now! You can start reading it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7021452/
The full disclosure's below.
In early April 2010, I premiered my first anthropomorphic comic, 'Cruelty' (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3704554), here on FA. By now, at lot of y'all have read it. It was originally intentioned to be a short, one-shot comic, for the sake of practice, and critique. But as time went by, I grew more and more attached to the characters, and what was meant to be a small comic evolved into a 43 page graphic novel. It proved to be a wonderful experience for me, as I learned how to put together a comic, and got to know more and more of this community. I'm grateful to this day for the outpouring of support from you guys. I've always wanted to do comics for a living, but it wasn't until 'Cruelty' that I felt I might honestly be capable. I've still got a LONG way to go, but I wouldn't even be capable of pursuing this as a career if it weren't for this community. Thank you guys.
After Cruelty ended in July 2010, I issued the following statement on the final page:
I appreciate all the enthusiasm and the love for the Cruelty characters, and trust me. . . I won't forget about them. But I would have to be SERIOUSLY convinced to do a sequel. Feel free to argue your case. I'm going to give the comic a year to sit, and cool off. If after a year or so's gone by, and I'm STILL getting a lot of interest in the idea, or if enough of you can make a good argument for it. . . I'll consider it. If I ever did, I'd want to do it in color. I think at the very least, that'd separate it some from this one. Like, the 'adult years'. . . as opposed to the more juvenile art/shading.
As of this month, it's been a year. And I've been under a *deluge* of requests for some form of continuation since the comic ended last year. This was a very, very difficult decision for me, especially considering I now have another ongoing comic to work on. I've gotten a number of very convincing arguments from folks here on FA as to why the story should be continued, the most obvious of which being, a lot of things were left unanswered or unfinished in the previous story. But I decided a long time ago that if I was going to do a sequel, I would need to be serious with the script for it, and it would need to add to, not simply continue, the first story. After a few months of furious writing and consideration, I've a script I hope honors the first.
ALL of that being said, if you were happy with the initial comic, it remains a stand-alone story. 'Unconditional' continues 'Cruelty' approximately two and a half years after the end of Marcus and Reis's senior year in high school. It can follow either 'branch' of the storyline, although it does assume that at some point, the two characters entered into a romantic relationship.
Unconditional will be in pre-production for the next few months, while I finish my commission roster, and continue to work on Red Lantern. When Red Lantern volume 1 is complete in November, I'll begin posting pages of Unconditional. So for now, y'all will have to be patient :) I'll post a teaser image every now and then, and the occasional piece of pre-production work.
The comic will be approximately 80 pages, in full color. Its' current publication deadline is set at Anthrocon 2012, but that could potentially change, depending on my other work.
If anyone has any questions, as always, feel free to ask. And thank you all again, for watching and reading!

I'm hoping and eager to see the project for this and red lantern both as they keep going buddy! :D
And, given the naming of the stories of these two so far, the title here, "Unconditional" has me pondering the plot. I'm just plain interested in seeing what's happened to these two after all that time, and where their lives are now, and what challenges they'll face. Thanks for giving me something to really look forward too.
What, a follow-up short series? Where?
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4553115
you know i will want it for sure hehe
Im just hoping your not driving yourself to burn out on it all - with Red Lantern in progress, your commissions, cons your attending, and getting this one started...
Take care of yourself. 8=)
Extra points for Rukis! This makes a relationship much more realistic, especially considering wolf boys emotional state and drug addiction earlier on in the piece.
But I don't think Rukis would do something soo...predictable.
I'm so happy that we will be able to read what happened in the lives of Marcus and Reis. and in full colour now ^^
As far as i can figure out. for the pic. Reis is working in construction, Marcus is having a hard time at law school, and for the look on him i bet there will be serious problems between them.. (as with mst couples), most probably Reis went back to drugs use due to labor stress and maybe some co-worker insinuations and has been hiding it from Marcus. And Marcus found out somehow and has second thoughts by now after all the effort he went through, even though he loves Reis he finds it hard to forgive and forget.
Hehehe.. sorry for that.. i guess i got excited and went over the board with that :P hehehehehe
Thanks for letting us know Rukis ^^ and that pic is amazing ^^ (you sure like to spoil us up and treat us nicely ^^)
*jumps up and down on bed repeatedly and doesn't stop*
Keep up the awesome work with everything Rukis!
(needless to say, I'm very happy with Cruelty even if the print itself came out a little muddy in my copy)
I'll be looking forward to your work on the sequel! I trust it's as compelling a script for a graphic novel as the first one was - it has to be, if you plan almost double the pages...
I adore you!
Also "it does assume that at some point, the two characters entered into a romantic relationship."
Well, of course!
That's an interesting question! And the answer is............ perhaps you'll have to wait and see.
*nosebleed + faint from excitement*
good!!!! Cruelty deserved to be continued, bah i think that.
whatever, i like so much Cruelty and i am trying bring one copy here, argetina, but it is a little diifficult.
thanks for keep drawing
Can't WAIT for it!
As you can see, there's gonna be a tidal wave of pre-orders flooding in when it goes public.
Everyone loves Marcus and Reis.
But just like every one else. We cant wait to see some teasers!! <3
We all love the "Cruelty" you must put us through for this next chapter in Marcus and Reis's adorable relationship! <3
And we will then love you for a Very long time.
I may be straight, but I couldn't help but become connected to these two wonderful characters you've developed.
I'm already looking forward to picking up a hard copy of this one. And Cruelty, if I can find it somewhere.
As always, you've done a great job on this piece.
The characters' poses seem very natural, and I imagine it must be tricky when you're dealing with the legs of anthro animals...
Their expressions are very subtle, but I'm not really getting a warm vibe. On the contrary, they both seem a bit irked at each other. A nice way to introduce or hint at conflict, but now you've got me wondering what's going on!
Keep up the great work!
Oh MAN! I am super excited for this! That cover is very well done and already I have a ton of guesses at what might happen between these two.
Awesome job, Rukis!
...
So this might be an oddly specific question, but what is Marcus majoring in?
No, seriously, this just made my WHOLE DAY better!
Tension, Conflict, Break up, Cheating, Separate ways due to different point of views how to live Life, Secrets, Black mail, Job loss, violence, rough un-enjoyable sex, rape possibly, make up, understanding, renewed friendship, fake boy friends, and... wait for it marriage.
I don't mind waiting because I know that good things will come with time.
That and Red Lantern is just so amazing I do not know if I can handle two ridiculously awesome comics at once!
Just sayin... :) The Mayan Calendar 2012 Deadline, I hope we will have some minutes to enjoy the comic. XD
______________
Okey, now I'm serious!
Awesome news! ;)
Some time ago you posted a story of the "continuation" of Cruelty....this history will stick to that old continuation or it's going to be completely different and with no relation between them?
Good luck, cheers!
Cruelty is my favorite comic. I read a LOT of comics, so... take from that what you will.
AND NOW YOU'RE TELLING ME THERE'S A SEQUAL? JESUS MARY CHRIST. ;3; Thank you. So f*cking much.
and it was the best comic i've ever read before...
i'd be so happy when there was a third sequel..
Do you ever thougt to make a continuation?
it would be so awesome...
ps. my english isn't the best one 'cuz i'm german i suddenly found Cruelty and i was so enthusiastic when i found you on Furaffinity.
BECAUSE IF SO THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME.
I'm a "late bloomer" when it comes to this community, and being 42 makes it more difficult to find others. Your writing has peeked my interest and I wanted to learn more
