A possum skull with some conure feathers.
It looks really cool when I burn sage or incense and the smoke ripples around the skull. Very mystic.

gorgeous! i'm thinking about doing this if i can obtain a few coyote skulls :3.. brilliant idea :D
also, the quality of that opossum skull is wonderful :3 the one that i found, i had to clean myself and ended up falling appart in the process (it was like the world's most obnoxious jigsaw puzzle, but it was worth it)

I've fortunately never had a skull come apart on me :p
I could imagine the trouble it would be to get it all in one piece again.
This one I found as roadkill, and I'll spare you the dirty work that came along with retrieving it
But for future bone-collecting, I always suggest people macerate the bones to free it from the flesh I've always had the most success that way, then I give it a few good peroxide baths

Boiling them is quicker, but it can often result in the separating of bones and sometimes it will make the oils from the skin and marrow seep into the bones themselves. Larger animals can then develop a rather rancid odor. (if you ever run into that just soak it a few times in hot water and dawn dish soap)
ha ha it's always a good laugh when you have to pull your car over to nab up a good body and you see horrified looks of passerbys :p

sorry to butt in! but you should never boil them or put them in bleach! that's extremely damaging to them. instead, you should macerate them (this is the very best way) or, if you must "boil", just bring the skull to a slow simmer and add sodium bicarbonate/baking soda (this turns the flesh into jelly) and don't simmer it for very long.
if there is no flesh on the skull, or if you've finished getting it off, soak it in 3% brown bottle peroxide for a few days (or weeks) and then remove it and leave it in the sun to get it even whiter.
bleach breaks down the bone and leaves it very weak and chalky, prone to flaking. boiling can crack the bone and usually splits the teeth, especially the canine teeth. boiling also will shrink the bone.

Thank you :D lol yeah, I learner the issue with boiling them the hard way. The whole skull fell apart and I had to put it together like a puzzle. As for the bleach, I know, I hats the chalkyness afterwords, but to help with that I usually water it down a lot. But I'll have to try the baking soda and peroxide as you suggested :)
