This little guy took my worm off the bottom and I ended up hooking him and bringing him to shore. But omg, i've never seen a snapping turtle that was as angry as this one was, this one was just flat out pissed off. I got him on the shore and he started running toward me so I grabbed him by the tail and picked him up. Holding a snapping turtle by the tail is about the only way to safely hold one. I let this guy go after managing to get the hook out of it's mouth.

I pulled over to save one of these in Nixa once a few years back. He was sunning himself, the way turtles do, on a big flat black rock (known to us humans as "the road"). I was lucky to have a PVC pipe in my car, and I shoved him off the road toward the pond he must have crawled out from. He must have been decades old, because he was almost the size of an adult human torso.
oh wow, that's a big turtle. I've only seen one that size in person that wasn't in captivity, it was an alligator snapping turtle and I came across it at my favorite fishing river while wading through the water, it was a good 20 yards away but still close enough to make me very much uneasy about being in that area.
In my old home state of Florida, Alligator snappers are common and they are scary. That's likely what I saw. He was about this size http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:A.....ng_Turtle2.jpg
I've picked up a gopher tortoise or two before, but they're not known for biting off fingers like these guys... hence my use of the pole when I rescued the snapper. ^__^
(And yes, he bit the PVC pipe multiple times when I was shoving his shell across the road. LOL)

dude, stfu. is it really that hard to keep from stating something that has nothing to do with the picture? I don't much appreciate people going and saying something like that to a picture that isn't intended to be showing off something that you focused on. And aside from that, don't tell my mate what to, and to not do. I took your comment as if you were hitting on me and i'm sure that's how my mate took it as well, and yah, it pissed us both off. Keep your comments like that to yourself or don't comment at all.
dude, don't come to my submission thinking you can post whatever the fuck you want on it and expect me to listen to you because you think i'm out of line. Most people who are loyal to their mate wouldn't go to someone else's stuff and say something like that. You were completely out of line with how you did that and seemed to give no consideration that maybe some people don't appreciate people commenting on their personal looks. I mean really, like I said earlier, is it really that hard to keep comments like that to yourself? This could have all been avoided if you just didn't comment like that. I use FA to share artwork/photography, not so people can come and check me out and be like "damn ur so cute!". that's just fucked up dude. Then when my mate calmy commented to your comment putting forward that she didn't appreciate what you did, you replied trying to tell my mate what to do. nobody tells my mate what to do but me. Don't fuck with my mate, or me. Telling me i'm cute is not a good thing, it may be a compliment in your mind, but to me, and my mate, and many other loyally mated couples, it's an insult in a way. now if you would please calm the fuck down or get the fuck off my page. k? thanks...
Ha! Funny we were just talking turtles near my town...
I just saw one of our neighbors out the window near the road, and he picked up 2 snappers. One was about the size of the one in this picture, and the other was close to the size of the one I shoved off the road in another part of town. Apparently they must have come from the pond that's only a couple houses over from ours. ^__^ They were not Gators though, they were like the one in your picture.

oh no, It had taken my bait that was sitting on the bottom and I ended up hooking it and pulling it to the shore where I carefully removed the hook, making sure not to get bit. but yah, I wouldn't go and grab a turtle out of the water for no reason, especially not a snapping turtle.
That guy looks super pissed. I had a snapper at the farm one time... Oh, I still wonder about it.
